Can't find any hogs.

I was just wanting to see if anybody else is having a hard time find hogs this year. We have been hunting different land this year that we haven't hunted at all and that nobody has hunted.

yea i dont have near the hogs or hog sign on my places as i did in the past...and it seems when we finally do get on a hog all it wants to do is run.

We hunt near Cameron Tx. We dont even see any sign on any of the new places that we have been huntin on. There are creeks that have water in them and no tracks in the creek at all.

It seems like all of my spots dried up over deer season which is really frustrating because I figured that with zero hunting pressure, they would find them as refuge. Apparently, they preferred the neighbors deer feeders over my refuge though.

Next weekend, I am going fishing!

The last couple of years it seems you can almost set your watch by it but as soon as the vegetation gets up good then we start catching fewer hogs per trip and total.  This has alot to do with the fact that we don't hunt 8-12 hours at a time like we do in the winter.  Also I think they travel shorter distances to find food and water and since they can, they do.  Also I think the dogs have a harder time keeping up with a running hog once the vegatation gets tall and thick.  I really hate hunting in the summer time.  The night time can be fun and we have caught plenty then but even a good hog at night in the summer isn't as much fun as those good cool day time hunts where you can hunt till your tired of hunting and you can watch the dogs work.  My  .02

In the last 5 hunts we have not found a single hog. I might start fishing until the framers start to call me and tell me that the hogs are back.

i went on 9 dry hunts in a row finally broke it sat and im in smithville but i don't notice much sign this yr either

it always gets harder this time of the year for me because like matt said the hogs dont move as much and to me it seems when they do move its at nite, and on the leases that i have you cant run dogs at nite, so most of the sign i find is old, making it harder for the dog to trail it, i have had alot of dry runs this year and been burt alot, but i stilll love to go out there and watch my dogs work, thats y they call it hog hunting and not hog catching lol

We've also been experiencing far more dry runs here lately than usual it seems.  Lots of our old go-to places don't even show old sign of a hog.  Land owner told me last week that while I've probably made a lot of people happy, I've also pissed a lot off.  I told him to find me those people, and I'll make them happy too!

Don't bother hunting that area.  I've already caught and killed all the hogs there.

Yeah its been a couple weeks since weve caught one too. We were catchn alot in the last couple months then it just shut off.

We haven't missed a lick since January... Only had about 3 dry runs all year.. Were doin alot better than the past few years

What happened to the "Pig Bomb"  and hog population "explosion" that the so called experts are saying is happening all over the US?  I haven't seen it here in Fla either. Seems like more hog hunters and fewer hogs every year. Not sure where they think the hogs are increasing in populations, but its not where I hunt.........

I also agree with Highwater, it never hurts to leave a few sows for seed. If you kill every hog you catch, sooner or later its going to hurt the population and then you will be wondering why you can't find any hogs.  I have seen it happen over and over and even though the "experts" will tell you a sow can have three litters a year with 6-8 pigs a litter, the truth is she isn't going to do that in the real world. She may only have two litters per year and only raise 2-3 pigs to weaning per litter. And thats in a good year. Varmits, weather, dogs and hunters take a heavy toll on the pigs and few that are born, make it to adults.

Just my observations from watching this happen over the past 30 years or so...........but what do I know.I am not employed by the Game Commission or other state agency that wants to exterminate the hogs who have been here in the US for 500 years....longer than white people have. Yet they say the HOGS are non-native species.....hmmmm........

x2 cracker c. If there is enough pressure put on the hogs(trapping,doging,& shooting),it has to take a heavy toll on the hogs.You can take the boars or bar them, but if you take every sow, yuo're not going to have many hogs, especially in hard hunted areas.
