Well we were supposed to go to the place with the runner but ended up going to a different place we dumped out on the creek was walking along when we heard my duke dog strike we got there and duke was hanging on the ear my other dog jesabell was also on an ear but the hog knocked the heck out of both of them he knocked them off by running them into a tree. He took off running down the trail when my dog cricket met him head on she got indoed and was knocked out for about a minute the other dogs were on his tail then he got through a net wire fence and the dogs couldnt get through it and they lost him the hog weighed at least 450lbs and i know on one side he had at least 4in cutters im going back in a few days with some catchier dogs ill get em.

Sounds like a bad one, I hope you get him next time.  I was wonder about something though. The dogs were on his tail, he was 450 pounds and went through a net wire fence. Why didn't the dogs just go through the hole he put in the fence? Huh?

Doesn't sound to me like you need any "catchier" dogs if those two were already on ears as bad as you need some dogs that will hold.  Did you not have a bulldog to turn to them?

he jumped the net wire fence my baydogs are real catchy but they just aint got the power to hold that big boy i would have turned my catchdog loose but the hog wasnt stoped the whole time he was running with the dogs on his ears. I made a bay vest and had it on the duke dog and it probably saved his life he was getting hammered.

Well good luck getting him.

...but the hog wasnt stoped the whole time...

I suppose we all do things different, but if I came up on a pig dragging two of my dogs around one on each ear you can bet my bulldog would be loose in about 1/2 a second.  Getting the hog stopped and under control is his #1 job.

Boar dog we are not thrashing u just trying to give u some seneros and help. However this is how I would go about a BIG hog,, IF i wanted to catch and tie, 2 loose baying dogs and 3 mini trains laying the law down... IF i just wanted to kill and get him outta there before he kills anything then 1 loose baying dog and a 3030 rifle Grin.. Just me and my opinion, I just feel that more dogs on a big hog will better your chances of getting dogs hurt or killed and no hog to show for it... But that is me and ur way may work fine!! A hog of that caliber u want to make sure u do it the best way u can and want to...

I am all for the catch dogs! The best of strike/bay dogs will try to hold a big boar but it usually takes a good catch dog to get the job done.

We have had our best catch dog get knocked off one time. The boar was big & mad...but not near as mad and sulky as the catch dog got ! I think she is still ticked off at that boar !

Im in erath county and hogs in our rough country are really tall and long legged and i dont turn my catchdog loose unless the hog is stopped or slowed down im going to get him this weekend i got a big ol bulldog cur cross he is real big and hits really hard im taking him and my other running catch dog ill probably take 4-5 really catchy bay dogs and 2 catchdogs for him i think taking more dogs is better for that kind of hog i think. Thanks for the tips i may try a few but i got a plan and i think it will work.
