Ive noticed that several of yall start your dogs off on cows before working them on hogs, and some of yall use them for both.
How do you keep your dog off of cows while you are hunting, or how do you break them off of cows completely and use them strickly for hogs once they have been worked on cows?  Huh?

Haveing the place to do this is very important!! The dog will learn what you ask of them!! But it comes with handle they need to be taught how to be called off!! It takes alot of time!! But if i want to let them start baying cows to just get them learning to bunch  then break them! I will let them bay beteen 9 and 13 months on cows!! Then I will start them on hogs and break them off cows I just wean mine off by just calling them out ! But you can use other methods shocking or whip!
this is hard to explain over the net without seeing it be done!!  My dogs that go both ways it does shorten there range up because they look for some direction!! But we catch a crap load of hogs with these same dogs if you bay 10 hogs with these dogs on a cold morning you might catch all ten!!They learn there are more hogs in a bunch and will keep trying to gather them!!

On the dogs that you use both ways, couldnt shocking them off of cows while you are hunting, affect them while you are wanting them to work cows?

Yea if your going to use them on cows and hogs you don't want to shock them.  Some dogs over time just know what your wanting from them when you go hunting.

It is very hard to exlpain but I will give it a try!!! When I unload the dogs and tell them in a way  they will go find cows and when we hog hunt they will make a few minnor mistakes if there are cows around and I will tell them thats not what we are doing they will go hog hunt the rest of the day!! But I only hunt 3 to 5 dogs  on the ground and only one will be a pup so very little mistakes are made!!

I can walk them through 300 head and they won't say a word or I can talk to them and they will bunch the whole heard!!!
some dogs are not breed to do this some are!!

I hunt and work cow in daylight unless it fall into dark!! So the dogs just have to figure out what I want!!

Where are you from!! I can show you better than I can explain!!

like cward i send them hunting with a different command for each . it dont always work , but i can call my dogs off , and yes i will use the e collar if i need to , not for working the wrong stock but for not listening when i say that'll do . after awhile they get the idea of what you want , or the ones that i keep feeding do anyways lol

I have two mt cur pups. About 13 months old that i can walk through a herd of cows while hunting and they wont even look there way. But the other day i had a bull get out and i called for them pups and talked to them and the next thing you know they was workin him and ran him right back through the gate. Never trained them to work cows. some just got it.
