Got a call from Paul to go hunting so I loaded up my lacy Marker, and 2 dogos: Pinky and PPC Eloy, and picked Paul up and met up with Phillip and the farmer and Phillips friend, think his name was Brock.  They had 6 curs and a pitbull with them. Loaded Eloy and the pit on the back of the four wheeler and started hunting this farmer's fields.  It was early only 8-9pm and the sun was still out and I usually don't like to start hunting when its this hot until after 11-12 when its cooler, but everyone wanted to get moving.  We hunted there for 3 hrs or so until midnight and did not get one bay.

Paul and Phillip decided we should hit their honey hole.  I was not sure if we would have any luck there since they told me that they just caught 3 boars there last night. They said its LOADED don't worry so we start making the rounds and as soon as we hit an open field the dogs all tore off and we see a big group of hogs being chased by our dogs, we see the group go one way but the dogs single one out and bayed up about 500-600 yards ahead.  Drove up closer in the 4 wheeler and we cut the catchdogs from 100 yards. It was a boar about 170lbs.

First hog - boar 170 pounds

Kept going towards where we saw the group of hogs go earlier, and one of the dogs starts baying again.  They stop another one in an open field about 400 yards up.  I cut Eloy loose from 400 yards and we drive in and he is caught with the other dogs on a big sow. We tied it up but the dogs kept coming back to it so we just finished it off and keep going.

2nd hog - sow (pregnant) 225 pounds

We keep driving through these fields hoping the dogs will roll out again and find the rest of the group. We see 10+ hogs running for a treeline trying to escape across this field. Paul says to me "let cut 'em off" and puts it full throttle on the four wheeler and gets between them and the treeline. The hogs could have just run towards us and right past us but were so confused that they got corralled and started running in a clockwise circle then just stopped in the middle of the field.  We were maybe 100-200 yards away and I cut Eloy loose and he ran right at the group of hogs.  One of the them broke and ran towards us. Eloy does a 180 degree turn and starts chasing this hog. We see the both of them run right by us.  I am thinking there is no way he is going to catch this hog cause it was a lil runner type and it was fast.  Plus Eloy was panting like crazy already from the heat and catching the first 2 and getting released from 400 yards earlier.  Anyways this hog has a bit of a lead on Eloy and somehow he RUNS IT DOWN LIKE A GREYHOUND about another 100 yards away and catches it right on the ear.  It was a 130 lb sow.   I run in and leg that hog, and Paul helped me put the hobbles on it. While we did that, the dogs bayed up the group and the other guys caught another small sow out of that group, a good eating sow 70-80 lbs.  We put the dogs up and gutted the two hogs.  It was about 4:30 am by then and we still had a 1.5 hour drive home. Got home and put the dogs up and put that lil sow in my freezer for later.

3rd hog - sow 130 pounds - caught and tied no pic

4th hog - sow 70 pounds - too tired right now so I just shoved the whole thing in the freezer

It was a good hunt, only 1 dog  got a small puncture, no other injuries to any dogs and 4 good hogs caught.  Eloy was tired but shut down 3 good hogs, and I seeing him run down that sow made my night. Thanks again guys for a good hunt!

Sounds like a great hunt. I don't seem to have that kind of luck.

Well Vinney, that little poke you were refering to killed that yellow dog. You know he looked pretty spent while we were working on him on the tailgate, by the time Brock got him back to Phillip's house he was dead. You know what is really a shame is that was the most scarred up dog I have ever seen, Im talkin about big bad scars, from his head to his toes. Lookin at that dog just made me wonder how he was still alive. He goes out there with six or seven gritty dogs on a Boar that only has whetters and gets himself killed with a little poke in the shoulder. That was Brocks lead dog. Sorry to hear it Brock, if there is anything we can do let us know.

Thanks for going with  us Chopps, that is the first time I have ever went hunting in a Toyota Prius! and to think we got three big dogs, two big hogs, and mine and your big fat butts in that little car, but at 50 miles to the gallon that beats the heck out of my dodge diesel.....4X4..... Grin

Man, are you serious?!? I feel bad for Brock too, we should have put him back in the box right after that first hog.  I had thought the bleeding had stopped and the actual puncture hole was small. I never even considered that he might not have made it. puts a real damper on the whole hunt especially since its his lead dog.

Sorry to hear about the dog.  If I take a half inch nail and put it on the end of baseball bat and hit you with it in the chest it will prolly cut you but as in this dogs case the cut isn't half the problem.
