There is probably one person that I would let use my dogs,....he's a close, liflelong friend and as close to a brother as I'll ever have. But he has never asked and probably won't.....he has let us,....meaning his brother and I, use his dogs when he couldn't go. I didn't ask, he just told his brother to get them and take them along on the trip....which was 4 hrs. away and over a weekend. There is another friend that I would probably let use mine if he were to ask,....but he wouldn't.... as I wouldn't ask him for his.

The only people I trust with my dogs are my Dad and two brothers,  there were times when I could not go hunting and my dogs were young, I wanted them to be hunted and let them take my dogs, even today if I could not go on a hunt I would not care if they took my dogs. My brother until a little while ago had the catch dogs and us the bay dogs, I would never take his catch dogs without him present because I would hate for something to happen and him not be there to make whatever decision that has to be made just because they are also his house dogs.

Anytime and anywhere. I borrow multiple of my friends dogs an will let them borrow anything they want! I agree with Chris and am happy to let any of my friends take any one of my dogs or other equipment.. I look at my dog as atheletes and the more practice and exposure they get the better they'll be. It's just part of the game if a dog gets killed or injured

Getting it done!!!

Now would I let anyone come borrow my dogs? Nope.   Are there a handful of people that have in the past, and are welcome to again in the future? Yes.

Those same people are welcome to come use my trucks, trailers, tractors, horses, home, etc.  If they need them, I along with my "things" are here for them.

This is my take on this subject. Hell I would put more faith sometimes in my friends as opposed to my brothers sometimes LOL   Guess sometimes it takes a little while to get friends like that in which you would trust your life or your kids life with. Sometimes comes with age. At 25 wouldn't do it at 40 well now depends who it is and I know that they know what i would do in a situation. Hell had a snake bite kill one of my dogs last week that could have happened in the kennel, nobody's blame it just happens sometimes.

My nephew got cut by a hog in a tank when we were hunting who's fault that's why they are called accidents. Sometimes things happen for no rhyme or reason.

I personally dont like to borrow other peoples dogs because Murphy's Law always applies in the woods.  I happen to borrow some Plotts and Jagds from Bud Goatcher to try out a different technique during the heat and long races.  As LUCK would have it, the female plott and some of my pups got out of my trailer by squeezing thru the railing while I was walking to a bay.  They didnt have tracking collars on while in the trailer.  It took me two days to find that Plott, and I was relieved to find her.  My pups are still out, but thats not near as important as me finding his dog.  I am going to continue to hunt them just put a tracking collar on them as soon as I take them out of the kennel.

On the other hand I do let some folks hunt my dogs, because I cant always be there these days and its not fair to the dogs to sit up and not do anything.  But I usually wont let the top Catch dog and Strike dog go without me there.

Only would let a couple guys borrow my dogs. I have done it before but its been a while. I really don't like doing it but I would do it again. I would never borrow someone elses dog though. If I am not at work I would expect them to invite me along if they wanted my dogs. If they don't invite me then the answer is no.

There are a few 2-3 people that can borrow my dogs if need be. The have hunted with me enough that the dogs know them and they know the dogs. I know they would treat my dogs like there own and I would treat there dogs the same way.

I borrowed a buddy's 2 dogs that came off my line of dogs almost all of last deer season. He was hunting goats for 4 months and did not want them to sit in a pen during prime time of there hog dog hunting life. It worked out good and he knew if I could not fix it they went to the vet. And they went twice under my dime. That is hog hunting.

If I know you are going to do everything you can to help out my dog then yes. But there is only a few like that.

i dont mind letting anyone take anything i got.. not that i have a dog worth taking but if they ask or let me know beforehand i dont mind. if they ask that must mean im not able to go. I dont mind if its my tracking system, dogs, dog food, trucks, leashes or anything i have if they need it or wanna borrow or use it. it dont bother me at all. in the same shoes though i hunt with all family and im sure the same would apply for me using there stuff.

For me, its not that I can't accept the fact that #2 could happen when I'm not there.  Rather, its because that I know #2 can happen at any moment.....I want to be there to deal with it when it does.  For example, if a dog gets hurt so bad in the field that it may need to be put down, I'm the only one that's making that call and I can't make it if my dog is there without me.  That's just one of hundreds of examples I can think of.

Thats exactly how i think!!! If something happens I want to be there when it does and thats that.  If something happens i want to know that EVERYTHING was done to save my dogs life and i guess only me being there is the only way to be sure. Thanks for the responses guys they are great!!!!

I don't borrow dogs but I would lend my out to a certain few. With my work schedule I can't always hunt mine as much as I would like and wouldn't mind loaning them out sometimes just so they could get hunted more.

Ive let friends use mine.  The dogs can get cut down regaurdless of who takes them, so thats not really a factor.  Theres only about 3 or 4 people who are welcome to use mine anytime, but like Matt said, they would never ask, but i would offer if they needed them.

I've learned alot from my uncles about my dogs and hunting so I've got no second thought as far as them running any one of my dogs and making decisions. I don't like the responsibilty of running someone elses dogs so I avoid that situation. (My baby sisters Pointer/Lab is a tracking animal but the feeling I get when I drop him just isn't worth coming home and trying to explain it to her)

hell no my brother is the only person that uses my dogs
x2

Me and my brother both have our dogs in the same pack. Rarely ever do we hunt without the other person there. We both have the same time and money invested in our dogs and thats the only person I trust.

I have borrowed a dog from a good friend one time and the only reason i did that is bc the hog had cut down every dog we had except my gyp and she was still on him and we were right by his house so we call him to ask if he would bring his dogs down to help and he told us to just go get one of his dogs that he wasnt home, i told him that it was a bad hog and he said that he trusted us to handle his dog just like we would ours. So we went and got one of his dogs luckly nothing happen to his dog and every since then he knows he can come get mine when ever he needs. So yes i will let a few people borrow mine.

i would just hate for one of my dogs to get killed or hurt with me not there. I think that no matter who had the dog when it got killed, i would still be mad about it and always think that i could have done more to keep him alive. jmo. so i just dont do it. I have only lost one dog to a hog in the four years i have been hunting. and still have the same catch dog and two curs that i started with. and caught many big hogs with them. But all it takes is one.

i guess it's all in all in who you trust. If you don't think a friend will do everything he can to save your dog then don't let them take 'em. i ask friends to take make dogs if i can't go. if something would happen then that is a chance that i took to hopfully make my dog better!! if i didn't think that person would treat my dog like his, then i wouldn't hunt with that person anyway. same goes with equipment, if the person using it won't treat it like his then its a no go!! my dogs aren't that good anyway, so i don't have people knocking my door down to borrow a dog!!!!
