Giving my dogs a little yard time and just got my Woodsmaster rescoped so I planned to take a hike today and see if we could get a boar lined up but it decided to rain on my plans so I decided since I've got the gun out why not share a pic of it with you guys. Hopefully the skies clear up and I can get some mountain time in before the dogs are recuperated. Remington 742 Woodsmaster 30-06  |

Hogdoggerdude14- I think it is just in that picture the barrel seems a little thick. I do have a 1100 and will say the stocks do have pretty similar looks to them but when you get both guns side by side you can definately differentiate between the 2. That is also a 10 round clip so that could have some effect to it also! Thank you for commenting!

That should be plenty of fire power for any hog. My step-dad has a matched set just liked that in 30-06 & 12 guage shot gun. Dont think he shot more than a box of shells thru either one of them.

Rockin P- I have taken numerous animals with this rifle in the last few years and really like the round. I got this rifle from a neighbor who at the time was in high school when his dad passed away and mom said he couldn't have the gun in her house, I purchased it to hunt with while the kid went to college with the intention of selling it back to him once he got his own place. I may go to a .270 if he decides he would like the rifle back. I've got quite a few great offers for the rifle and can't imagine what your step fathers would be worth today with only a few boxes of rounds put through it!

I have one and it has to be really clean or it will jam. Other than that I do like shooting it.

Thank you for the replies guys! Like I mentioned before, If the original owners son decides he would like it back then I will be glad to have had the oppurtunity to hunt with the rifle but if he decides he has no interest in it I then will keep it unitl I pass it on to my children.

man i do belive i have the exact same gun ... will post pics asap i got the high rise sights and everything ... but i'd rather just hunt with the iron sites when im stalking

Have you had any trouble with ammo jams? I remember, probably in the late 70's those 742's in the longer cartridges like 30-06 had issues with jams. Like someone posted earlier, you'd have to keep em' really clean. Dont know how old your rifle is, but I think the improved on newer models, can't recall if the 742 is still in production or if it was dropped. Always thought they were good looking rifles, and that 10 rounder really makes it look "hog ready".
