Wanted to share a quote from one of my favorite books which has opened my eyes to alot of things- called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.  It made me think of Matt and all of you hunters out there.. that the life & death part of hunting never goes without thought and gratitude..

"When you kill a beast, say to him in your heart:
By the same power that slays you, I too am slain, and I too shall be consumed.
For the law that delivers you into my hand shall deliver me into a mightier hand.
Your blood and my blood is naught but the sap that feeds the tree of heaven."
- Kahlil Gibran

..something to remember always!

Leave it to you to have some deep thought quote from a wierd book haha. No there is alot of truth to that though, can't think of too many times when I kill something that I don't take pause and think about what has just happened and why.

Mandy you have to watch Ted Nugent hunting show, he is always preaching that every kill is a blessing and should be thought of with respect. Of course he says it like a wild man and makes it alot more interesting the way he says it!

Yep, I like it too!

I am pretty good at apologizing to the hogs before I kill them. If we just tie them, I make sure they stay as cool and comfortable as possible through the ordeal - even if it means soaking them in water or giving them a drink of my gatorade. I know they need to be controlled, but I feel better when the process involves being as humane as possible...

You're right - it sometimes messes me up knowing that something was alive and living a minute ago, but I have ended it's life. It always helps if I immediately think about the fact that 5 minutes ago, that thing was wanting to thrash my dogs.

I know, I'm weird.

Cheers
