I know this is the dog hunting board, but several of our members are in the path... including us.

I want everyone to stay safe an not do anything to put themselves or their families in harm's way... be careful out there.

My wife and kids are already at her sister's in Dallas. I'm gonna stick around till tomorrow... latest reports have the storm heading east on every update.

I've been watching it too, looks like there's probably gonna be some bad surge on the N side of impact.  Get plenty of water put up(cap full of bleach to a gallon of water will make it keep),  and a generator if you haven't already got one.  We were without power for 4 wks in 04.... no generator, no wind, and 90' with 100% humidity.... makes for a long night...  Just think about having to camp for a few wks and what you would need to bring.

Make sure to put "collars" on your horses if you leave them behind, with your name, phone#, and address if the fences get knocked down and they get out.

Hopefully he boggs down before impact...

When hurricane Floyd came by us(FL) in '99(second largest evacuation in US history) we had bumper to bumper traffic in front of our property(we live in the middle of the state, high ground).   To have family after family drive up to your house and plead for shelter is a sobering experience.  I have never, before or since, seen such fear in my fellow man's eyes..... Luckily, Floyd turned and skirted our coast, otherwise there would have been many killed.

Do not take this storm lightly.   The roof is the first to be damaged, do all you can do to secure any loose edges.  Cut all overhanging trees/branches that will be blown down damaging all structure below.

Make sure you have a chainsaw/mixed fuel when you drive.  One big tree between you and where you need to be can be dangerous.

QSL on the chainsaw and mix gas.....I got BIG trees all around my house and barn and my kennels.  I hate to think what it will look like come Sat am.  I love having everything in the trees but I may be rethinking that after this.

What's QSL, I don't know that one?

BTW, your roof is the weakest link, tarps and tap-cons will help with preventing "de-shingling" if you take the time.

It is the same as saying 10-4, it is a two-radio language the same as 10-4 and 10-20 etc QSL means you understand or you agree and QRX means what is your location, there is a 10 language and a Q language used on the radio.  Just threw it out there to mix things up a little haha

Sitting here in LaPorte right now....  2 miles from the Houston ship channel, 5 miles from Galveston Bay, 26 ft elevation. First storm I have ever attempted to ride out.  I feel like I am prepared, somewhat.  14k diesel generator, 5500 watt gas, 2000 watt gas  170 gallons of diesel, and 60 gallons of gas.  plenty of food and water for about 7-10 days.House is boarded up and all 4 trucks are full of fuel.

My phone has been ringing steady for 2 days, and I have a few people to thank for their offers of help.

Mike, Matt, Cody Childs, Des, Krystal, Clay, and others that I am sure I have forgotten...Thanks for the offers of help, places to stay and board my livestock, etc.

Might not be my smarted move, choosing to stay, but at this point I am here for the ride... Shocked
