Wondering what makes some of us work so hard at this type of hunting?....  thrill? ..... challange?.... board with everyday life? .... the dog's?  ....     For me I've hunted most all legal game in Texas over the last 33 yr's. Right now hog hunting for me is less about how many or how big a hog and more about taking the pup and training it myself to find the hog.......... {Three hogs}------ one hog could be an accident/.......two hogs could be a fluke/ ..... but that third hog Huh??? could feel real good!!! ......  I started three years ago with catahoula pups lost one to a highway accident last year just as he was really getting started, took me amost a year now but I'm right there again with my BMC i have now ...IT'S Crazy I almost can't sleep at nite for wanting to put him in the wood every nite!! Because Cats dont bay worth a Flip!!! Smiley  (Couldnt resist)

Seriously, I hunt for the enjoyment of working dogs and I pretty sure everyone here is in the same boat unless they have someone else that takes care of and trains there dogs for them, then they might not do it for the love of dogs and seeing them progress.

Because I found out there were dogs as crazy as me. The dogs that want to hunt as bad as I do. If you told me I could never hunt again... So I don't want a dog to feel that horrible. I love the pursuit as much as the dog. I feel stir crazy when I ain't hunting. So me and my dogs both benefit.

I love huning with dogs period. I have always had dogs and probably will always have dogs until I die. To me nothing is more pleasurable than watching dogs do what they love to do.  No matter what game it is. At one time I had about 40 dogs on my hill. Deer hounds, rabbitt hounds, fox hounds, and some palin ole potlickers. Just love dogs I guess.

I like to see a good dog work in the woods.

My job;  Is to set my  dogs up for success by checking the weather conditions including the wind direction and then making a plan of attack to increase the probablity of striking and catching a hog. I try to get in the dogs head to see what he is thinking and why he is doing what he is doing.  once I learn how the dog hunts then the plan takes into consideration the dogs strengths and it's weak points to increase our success.

The dogs job is to execute the plan and hopefully make it happen.

It's a game... a great game...

I grew up hunting with my grandfathers, deer dogs, hog dogs, squirrel dogs and rabbit dogs.. I decided when I got a place of my own that I would carry on the tradition and show my kids what it is like to hunt with dogs... Plus, my huntin season never ends now.. Boy my wife is glad when I tell her that... Grin

because you get to direct raw instinct into a precision hog hunter. the pay off of seeing that little pup turn into a good dog due to all the hard work and time put into them. plus rifle hunting was gettin too easy for me. haha. but since i substituted a rifle with a knife i couldn't hit a barn door with a shotgun :p lol

We enjoy hunting with dogs, cause of the thrill, adrenaline rush you get when dogs start barking. Then you hear the squealing of a hog being caught. The excitement of family and friends getting to watch first hand what its like. And all the above as one post said! laugh
