"Animal welfare, not animal 'rights'
and, yes, there is a difference."

This article below belongs on the editorial page or in a paid advertisement
in the Dallas Morning News. Is Reporter Erin Mulvaney moonlighting for
Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) now, the state coalition of "animal
rights" extremists? This is her second article pushing for the HSUS and THLN
bill being filed next legislative session, the misnamed "puppymill" bill
which defines a "puppymiller" as the owner of a certain number of intact
female dogs and cats. Yes, cats! Of course, the intent of that bill is the
same as with the pet stores Erin denigrates so eloquently. Stop ALL pet
breeding and sales of pets! My, my, isn't it obvious by now? Where do
these morons think future pets will come from?
Oh, I forgot. That IS the agenda. To them, there is no such thing as a
"responsible" breeder. Puppies and kittens don't grow on trees. Dog and
cat shows are also under attack, not only pet stores. Just ask Jonnie
England who is quoted in the article. Competition dog and cat breeders
don't produce litters to supply the pet trade as they breed for competition
in conformation and performance events. They usually have waiting lists of
buyers. ALL breeders are regulated by Texas Animal Cruelty laws, the
strictest in the nation! Where will your next pet come from, whatever the
species? Or will tofu and that stuffed animal work for you?
