My dogs are kenneled next to eachother so when I have a dog with pups I just use it on the rest and never see any on her or the pups. Have used it once on a pregnant dog before (an accidental breeding and didn't know at the time) and her and pups did fine. She had them around a month after I used it.

permethrin is absorbed through the skin and works as a nuerotoxin on invertabraet insects. The organic form, pyrethrum has been in use in the US for over 75 years safely for pest control and has not been proven harmful to pets or livestock. there is some anecdotal evidence linking these chemicals to human autism but is so far unfounded. it will kill cats and fish.
I dont know if pyrethrum can pass the placental barrier but as an exterminator i would suggest that you treat the entire kennel area weekly with pyrethrum based insecticide spray and not the actual dog herself.
it might not hurt the pups but its an unneccasry risk IMO
