Mine is solid catch.  That being said he did not turn on till about a year and seven months old but when he did it was balls to the walls for him.  His bad habits are whining and chasing rabbits.  I like them but really like ridgeback crosses.  I don't hunt mine much he is too big part of the family but when I do he winds with the other dogs and I can lead in or let run if they are a catch dog work them up slower than a pit they have to build their confidence but once there I trust him over my pit

The one I have is about 1 1/2 old and he does use his nose alot. He is very big and pretty. He will bark at a hog but he has never really had a good shot at proving hisself. He can run as fast as anything I have ever seen. He also has very good stamina for a big dog.

I've got a 2 year old male half Kalahari stock and other half American.  He needs to find a mate.  I got nothing to say bad about him yet, I've raised him since he was a pup.  He's a slam jam, hard hitting soild catch dog.  He stays on the ground at all times with the other dogs.  In the heat when the other dogs are gulping down water he's running around ready to hunt.

I asked a buddy that I hunt with about ridgebacks. He has alot of experience hunting and dogs. What he said was what he had seen was real good or real bad and not much in between.

I have one that is hell on wheels if you want to keep the rabbits run out of your yard!!

My neighbor’s retired mother and father have 3 ridgebacks that they travel the country with, going from dog show to dog show. Big beautiful dogs all three!

He told me a story about an incident they had before a recent show they were going to attend somewhere in Illinois. He had interred his big male in a obedience class so he took him to a local park early that morning to work with him a little before the show. A little pre game warm up I guess.
Just as he released his dog to begin a few drills, several doe strolled out into a big field right in the middle of the park about 100 yards from them. He said his dog tore out after them ignoring his commands and ran one of the does down and had it killed  by the time caught up to them!
It was the second time the dog had caught a deer! So much for obedience but a dog that can run down a deer and catch it has to have serious some speed IMO! Even if they are park deer!

It sure was funny to hear him tell it because he had broke a few laws when he released his dog from its leash, in a public suburban park! I got to witness his little ole wife chew his butt out all over again for allowing it to happen and then not reporting it in fear he would get thrown in jail! LOL.
They left town, forfeiting the show and their entry fee money! LMAO.
I still tease the ole fella about having outlaw Ridgebacks but not in front of his wife!
