Have you ever had one of those hunts that seems to be a chain reaction of bad events? I left town yesterday headed to Phillips to go and talk to an old man about hunting on his place, I had been asking Phillip just about all day to call and make an appointment with him, he told me he would so I leave two hours early to go visit the fellow. I get 30 miles down the road pull in to get some diesel and Redman, reach for my wallet and Guess What?Huh? NO WALLET! EPIC FAIL #1.  I left it at home! So I turn around and go get it. I have to have it. keep in mind it takes me an hour and a half to get to Phillips. I get almost to Phillips house and find out he is just now calling the guy who is out workin cows! So that was EPIC FAIL #2.  Went on to Phillips to wait on Eric (Leif Barns) to get there we were meeting to hunt a new ranch. Eric Calls says he is running late because he had two Flats on his Ranger Trailer, EPIC FAIL #3.  We call him a little while later he says I would have been there but the Ranger slid off the trailer at a stop light! EPIC FAIL #4. Finaly get to the ranch get a good bay going after about 15 mins. Send in three CD's they miss the catch the race is on! Failure #5. Finally caught a 40# shoat(yea). While we are standing at the edge of the creek on one little patch of sand bar a big COTTONMOUTH swims over and quiles up on that small sandbar right in the middle of the 4 of us! EPIC FAIL #6. I start smacking it with a dog lead. Phillip starts hollaring dont do that, because (He wants to cut its head of with a 6" knife) Its important to him that everyone knows he is brave! I guess he didnt care about the smart part! Before I could get a Pic of this BIG 3 footer Phillip throws it out in the creek and it sank! Failure #7. We caught two skunks right after that. Failure # 8-9. Then while going across a Cow Pasture in the ranger we noticeed one of the Young Plott Pups striking up a game with a young Calf who was bucking up and down back and fourth. This turned into EPIC EPIC EPIC FAIL #10 a caught calf in the pasture and all the dogs chasin cows all over the ranch right in front of the landowner! (We have hunted this pack for two years and in cows and not a problem) We finaly caught all the dogs up and headed to one of our ranches to hunt. After about an hour we finaly caught another Trophy Skunk. Failure #11. Zig finaly struck another track, the pack went about 800 yds and bayed up in the corn, caught another 50# shoat(yea). Zig and Daisy rolled out about 1.5 mi. and we drove around to within 60 yds of the bay turn in the two finished CD's, MISSED AGAIN! Failure #12.  The garmin shows Salty bayed all the way back where we just came from and I actually heard her just hammering, so away we go with a 10 month and a 6 month future CD's. Got about 150 yards from the bay only to find one of our best dogs sittin on Eric's Trailer without a care in the world while Salty is baying her guts out only 150 yards away. EPIC FAIL #13. We go on in to salty within 25 or 30 yds cut those two pit pups loose, Erics go to her Phillips 6month old doesnt! Hog shashes the dogs and is off to the races! Failure #14. We rode around the next hour collecting dogs for the night but before we could get on the road I had EPIC FAIL #15.......I RAN OUT OF REDMAN!!!!!!!!  To all those people that call and want to go hunting with us. How do you like us now?Huh?Huh?Huh?

This is about one of the most up front and true hunting stories that I have heard on here sence I have been reading this board. And I thank you for sharing with us Raider. These kind of hunts happen to all of us, but as we all know sh!@ happens and things go wrong. that is what makes the good hunts so fun.

whoooooo!!!!!!! that sounds like a whipping!!! even worse than the muddy day out by that cemetery (14 dogs on cows) and the azz whippin out there when we got the brand new Mule stuck in the mud 10 minutes into the hunt.  I gotta say, some of the more trying hunts have been with you guys but in the end i had fun on both of those hunts and have enjoyed many more hunts where nothing bad happened. You guys have a way of turning a "charlie foxtrot" into a hell of a time!!
