Not all pit bulls will work but they are my top choice as far as catch dogs are concerned.

A very high percentage of pit bulls will catch a hog, but there are many other factors that I take into consideration as far as a catchdog goes. What exactly do you mean by "work"

Lots of pits will catch a hog, but it's nice to have one that won't fight, won't bark or whine in the dog box, leads well, gets along with kids, and is easy to train. there are plenty of pits out there that fit that bill, ya just got to get the right one. good luck in your search.

depends on what you want out of him. there are so many breeds of pit. some are short and sqwatty, wider than they are tall. with a head the size of a D9 dozer. more of a show pit. then you have pits like mine that are alot taller, not near as wide and have a longer face. in my opinion are more game bred. i like mine to be able to cover alot of ground with alot of speed.

are you meanin by different bloodlines? or just any particular dog most will will catch from my experience and i have had allot i raise em but some catch wild some are slow some regrip some are dog aggressive some human aggressive and some just will flat out not catch some of these things might not matter to you some might matter allot i love fast hard hittin dogs which is what i shoot for i will not tolerate human aggression the others ... so really it just depends on what you want and how you want it any of the bloods will work just depends on the individual dog hope this helps

where can i find one like that? Every pit I have owened has been the way they descibed!!I have zero tolerance for a pit to act a fool!Once mine is broke he better shut his mouth the catch is over if I leave him on the buggy to go catch a hog he better keep his mouth shut!! But to the question yes most pits will catch a hog!!But there are caertain thyings I like about certain pits so I am picky on what I raise!!

I would say it is both!!I breed mine now with a few other friends!! I had better luck with handle out of bitch dogs!! I have owned some that was unbeleavable!! They would stay with me with no leash until I told them to go!!They were the best to hunt behind!!The dogs could roll out why I was tieing a hog and I could tell them to stay and they would never move!! I have had some goofy ones to they did not stay here!! I have had 3 males that were good one that I own now his dad and his grandpaw!!I just breed him to a gyp that handle just as good!! So I hope it works!! I started breeding mine just because of handle!!But would not tie my whole place up with pits all in my yard so me and a friend breed together!!

Well I can give you my opinion. It is both genetics and training. A crazy hyper dog will be hard to calm down. I like to pick a pup that is quiet and laid back. Then I make sure that he never gets too riled up or excited around other dogs or people. I raise him around other dogs untill he likes being around other dogs which includes playing as a young dog. I make sure he doesn't ever get around another dog that likes to fight and watch closely. If the pit doesn't have these manners I don't keep it especially if it is human agressive... I can't tolerate any hyper dog.

Thanks guys. By work I mean catch.
No dog or human aggression! I did choose to go with Pits but not because I think any less of them. But if I was getting a Pit I would get one from a hog hunter. Because they are going to have dogs with better genes and will be able to tell you how to rain them.

A friend of mine had a jam up RCD that was 1/2 rotweiller and 1/2 black lab. He was a good help dog. He caught the sows and young boars. He would stop a big boar and bay until you got there and then he would catch on command. I would love to have one just like that.
