went to a new spot last night that i had scouted last weekend. i found sign of a good hog and wanted to try em last night. brought three bay dogs and a bulldog was gonna make a short run and go home, i thought. i dumped my dogs and within a few minutes they were already bayed. i just new it was gonna be a good night. walked my bulldog within about 60 yds and i could hear what i thought was at least three hogs gruntin. as soon as i turned him loose they break. ive got two baydogs and a bulldog headed north and another dog headed south. i looked at my garmin and the north bound dogs bayed again at about 600 yrds. the south bound dog is bayed again at about 900 yds. i head north on foot watchin the garmin and the bulldog gets about 150 yrds from the bay and they break again. bulldog comes back and the north bound dog is out of tracking range. i forgot to change the batteries in my garmin so i head back to the wheeler to get batteries and my antennae. i get all that fixed up and about 30 min later my north bound dogs are coming back in, almost at a crawl. my south bound dog is at almost at a mile and a half out and looked like he was hunting instead of running or baying. south bound dogs make it back and collapse from heat exhaustion at the water cooler. i was watchin my south bound dog on the garmin and he was covering a lot of ground with no intention on coming back. i waited over an hour and decided to go get him. got within about 500 yrds and couldnt get any closer on the wheeler, so i waited. he was on the other side of one of the thickest thickets i think i have ever seen. finally decided to run my wheeler up and down the trail hoping he would hear me and come back. it finally worked after a while. got home late with nothing to show for it but some wore out dogs and more briar scratches than i can count. ever happen to yall?  ? |

the way that hunt sounded you probably could have been hunting my hunting club. we work all day to catch one hog

It happens frequent that things just don't go all that right, myself get frustrated and only like to tell the stories of the good hunts!

yea i hear ya. first time my dogs ever split like that. found myself in an uncomfortable situation in woods i wasnt very familiar with.

Its happend more times than I can count. But thats why its called huntin. IMO times like that just makes you a better hunter and your dogs stronger and really wantin to catch the next one even more.

You aint alone man,, it happens to all of us, ,, well,, atleast to all of us honest enough to say it.. I aint found a pack of dogs yet that can hold every hog they bay,, I dont think I could afford them anyway..  |

well i have plans to redeem myself this saturday night. buddys got pics of hogs that have been comin to his feeder EVERY night for the past two weeks between 3am and 7am. so i plan on havin pics with the next post!!!
