Thats interesting Mike. I would hate to try and make a show like that into a sucess. To tell the truth I don't really think something like that is even a good idea. I dont think Hog dogging will ever be excepted main stream. Most people will never know enough about it to make an educated opinion about it and even a TV show would not be able to accomplish that. In my opinion, no matter how respectable of people they get on a show like that it will always get some animal rights extremist stirred up. And they are the ones that will make the most noise. Not to mention any TV show will be distorted from reality to make it more interesting and get more viewers. So I for one would rather not see it go that way. I think as a whole we are better off preserving and promoting the tradition by just doing our thing in a respectable and responsible manner and recrute newcomers and teach them how to do it the same. For what its worth I think that kind of show would just stir up more trouble than anything else. I'd be glad to hear that every one they contact respectfully declines to be on a show like that. But somehow I don't think that will happen. Just My 2 cents.

The dogs in the Nat Geo Explorer on Hogzilla were my dogs. I spent two mornings hunting with those people, bayed up a couple of sounders, caught a couple of hogs and took them with a knife. Have you ever tried getting a camera man, sound man and a lady producer in close to a bay on spooky hogs? They told me they were doing a special on wild hogs and never mentioned Hogzilla. When the show came out, they showed about ten seconds of the hunt, then said some people were afraid to go in the woods without a pack of dogs to keep the hogs off them. I was hot and swore they couldn't pay me enough to do another deal like that. I should have known something was up when they put a camera in my face and started asking about how big hogs got and how dangerous they were.

Bigo, that's kind of what happened on our deal... but none of our footage made it on the show. We filmed with the History Channel a few years back for Monster Quest... got some real good footage too.

Im with the other guys on this one. I dont feel that main stream America would take too well to seeing how our dogs and hogs get along. It is nothing like the Swomp People killing gators.

I know PETA is looking for something like this so they have more evidence on how the dogs don't get treated right or how it's animal abuse on the hogs...Gotta train a good dog somehow right? it would be neat in one since but I don't think putting the sport of hog doggin' in jeapordy for a lil time in the lime light. and Plus I don't live in Texas lol

I first read the post and first thought "this will be a blast". But then after thinking about it and reading the other posts, I must agree that this is not a good idea. I do not want to keep our sport in a "closed loop" for the fear of not teaching those who would enjoy our enthusiasm. However, the people that a show like this would expose are those "few". And those few are the ones that get riled up and speak louder. Louder than the actual masses speak when they are not as passionate. Kind of like our last presidential election. You guys know what I mean. It would not take much, just some simple editing, to make this sport we all love a target of those organizations that are so passionate about their cause that they get extremely radical in their fighting methods. To each his own, and I will not condemn anyone who participates in such an event. Just be careful. Remember, radical and controversial topics sell better than mundane ones.

Sorry, Sam here again. I want to emphasize that one of my main reasons for my previous post is because it was not The Outdoor Channel, or Uncle Ted, or Wildgame Nation, etc that approached Mike. It was someone not involved hunting. I do not think The Deadliest Catch can be compared to "Doggin Texas" or "Dogs Gone Wild". I do not trust how we will be portrayed. Just my opinion.

There is always somone out there that wants their "15 minutes of fame" and attempt to make themselves look better than everyone else. I can think of one person on top of my head...
I think these people contacted Rex too.

Sounds like a horrible idea. AND I dread to see who they actually get to do the show and the image they give to hog hunters.
There's little doubt in my mind that ego's will easily convince some people to want to be on TV.

I don't think I'm good enough to be profiled on TV so I wont be auditioning but lemme say this these people will have they're TV show and they're gonna find someone, would you rather it be some trespassing, dog starving leaving injured dogs in the feild, toothless hillbilly or a regular Guy like you and me who catches pigs with dogs?

I talked with the woman from Los Angeles on the same programming, she was to have Dan the fell amike talked to contact me later which I have been avoiding.
She was very clear that they were looking for an "interesting Character" which I told them we were plain and boring. That led me to believe this is not documentary type stuff but looking for entertainment to sell to the networks nad to sell commercials and advertising. I don't think the plain honest law abiding hunters are going to fit the bill for making it on the air in TV land however thee are a few characters I can think of that would fit the bill. Unfortunately its gonna most likely be the unsavory character representing the whole lot of us in this sport. I hope I am wrong.

I will have to admit that there is one way I would put up with all the cameras and producers tagging along.
here would be my terms, FIRST AND FOREMOST that MIKE ROWE from Dirty Jobs come along and I get to take him to stick/tie a hog. The other would be the ETHD crews be the other hunters that represent hog hunting with dogs, that way if it is aired I know it was not a backwoods, blubbering bloodthirsty drunk redneck representing our sport, so that it could be educational and done in a positive way, not somone looking for 5 minutes of fame and promote themselves. Did I mention I get to take Mike Rowe?

Not sure I want to be on TV for anything. But to trust someone else to use my image that can be manipulated takes a heap of trust. I am not for sale. Some people in this world want to be accepted. I just want to be left alone by the people who disagree and not accepted.
