Have any of y'all ever gotten a rescue pit, or a pit pup from the SPCA or your local pound and make a decent catch dog? I'm gonna get a catch dog after the first of the year and my wife wants me to try and rescue one from getting put down by the SPCA (dog lovers). I really don't wanna end up with a pot licker.

Do it all the time, but I get them before they go into the pound from the dog catcher himself

Danny we've done that inch and had pretty good luck with it. I kno the guy in commerce pretty good and can get dogs for free from him. And it's the same with the one in sulpher springs. A lot of times shell call me to see if anyone needs one or I need one.

I know a few guys who get strike dogs and catch dogs off of the Dog catcher before he drops them off at the SPCA.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

Sound good y'all i'm gonna give it a try.. gonna try to get one around a year old where i can start it right away...my wife has a real distaste for the spca when my son was in the 4th grade he found a litter of 8 bordercollie x heeler pups in the schools dumpster they were like 4 weeks old... we kept one, gave three away and carried the rest to the spca in mckinney, then my brother wanted one and we went back to get one,it had only been 4 days, and they had already put them down.. said they were sick .....my son is in high school now and the one we kept was never taken to the vet and died this spring from a miscarriage

Danny give me a call I will give you that pit pup I have on the dog trade. You can try him in your pen first and make sure he is what you want!
