Yes sir. There wasn't a whole lot of sign on the place... it looks like they're all down rooting up the pastures at the prison. Shocked

He's such a nice pale faced dog. I have to make sure he gets ample woods time and doesn't get shadowed by that superstar. They are all really nice pups but they all look alike so I naturally gravitate to the one that looks different - hence the pale face being my favorite. Glad to see you are giving him good woods time  Wink

Some of the best dogs I have owned were reddish yellow with the pale face some folks called them frosty mouthed. Matter of fact I named one Pale Face.

I like these gritty dogs that will take a track and put a hog on the end of it even if it take half a day. Cool Wink

Lionandboarhunter's dogs are some proprietary blend he cooks up. They are yellow dogs with lots of ear, but the pale faced one is a throwback to one of the original ingredients. They are fun to hunt behind, real busy, and as you can tell "quit" is not a word they know.

I call his dog "pale faced dog" because I can't ever seem to recall his name. Was your pale faced dog all cur or was it a blend of several breeds?

Cheers

Around 1990 I crossed a taylor bred BMC to a mtn cur and then only bred to mtn curs after that. This type of mtn curs had the frosty mouth that showed  up on a regular basis when I bred them these mtn curs had good size and plenty of ear. No quit and lots of hunt and grit. I used the BMC to make sure I kept the size and to quiet them on track some.

I also kept a pure line of mtn curs which were of the Texas Smoke breeding and a mixture of the Kemmer mtn cur.

Texas Smoke is of the same breeding as the Kemmers but somewhat larger and they seemed to be faster and harder hunting dogs. Both had lots of go and grit but I liked the Texas Smoke better.

The first mtn curs I got that I crossed over to the BMC (1 breeding) were 9 months old or so and these pups ran a hog about 5 hrs. in a thick cut over and I had to leave them over night. They ran about 2 or 3 hrs on the first drop so they ran about 8 hrs that day.

I knew I had found the right dogs after that hunt. All that running and only caught one but I was looking at the big picture. Smiley

I know lots of hunters who do not like these type of dogs but these are my favorite. Along the coast where the hunting land is shrinking these type of dogs will not be the type to have.

My friend runs these long range dogs with 2 dogs that are a cross between mtn cur and pitbull. He will not run these long range dogs by themselves if he can help it.

I think he might of had some field trial walker and it was the perfect blend.

I have an eye on another mtn cur that some say he has plott in him. It could be because he is winning the big hunts?? Huh? Wink

Most good dogs have some type of high powered hound that got slipped in behind the wood shed. Shocked Grin

you know the field trial game. If they are talking bad about someone it usually means that that person has the best dogs.

I did get one walker colored pup at the beginning though. Grin Must of been a throuh back fromway back. Wink

Getting back to Lion and Boar hunter. I sure would like to own a few of his pups...If they turn out like they should I would take real good care of them Smiley
