+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We went to that nasty brushy bayou after farmer said hogs were everywhere. We saw very few tracks and no rooting. I was surprised as there has not been a dog on the place in 6 months. But there were also no crops, everything was turned under getting the land ready for rice planting.

We hunted jagdterriers for a while, but the armadillos were too irresistable to a few of the little dirt piranhas. I guess all the ice thaw water and rain drove them out of their holes.

Adam eventually unleashed his plotts, while my plotts on the other side of the bayou ran a bob cat up and down trees for an hour. His blue plotts started a set of boars (2-3) and ran them up the other side of the bayou from me and then back. A round trip of about 4-5 miles. Then they did it again on my side of the bayou so I turned in my plotthounds (back from kitty-trashing on the bobcat) and all my jagdterriers (5).

The boars swam the bayou several; times trying to shake the plotts, but three of the plotts were the fast lightweight 40 pound kind and the hogs maybe out run many dogs, but not these.

The boars crossed the bayou and ran along the other side, a second time. Adam and I were talking on the phone; one moment I was saying "They are coming your way" then Adam would call me and say "Now they are coming your way." So according to the Garmin they made enough tracks chasing the boar to make up 12 miles for on dog and 5 miles for the rest.

The boars shook off the jagdterriers and one RCD by making the 5th bayou crossing (about 100 yards wide in flood stage). But the four plotts and one cur (Rosy) eventually brought them to bay and Adam shot one as it tried to sneak out the back way from the bay. It is the one in photos.  Someone to be unnamed left the catch dog in the UTV!!!

Here is the two that took down the boar at bay. Adam on the left, Byron on the right. Byron had another one in his sights, but pulled up at the last second as one of the blue plotts closed in on the boar and got too close. Takes a cool head. Thanks Byron - for not taking the shot!

I have never seen blue (gray) brindle.  Actually, these have light red brindel in the face and legs, but the light has to be right to see it and you have to be close.  I have a female from same litter that is black with the same faint brindle on legs and face.

We got these from Orval Roberts in Kelly, LA.   Never bred them.  If we could find a male under 50 pounds built and hunting same way, we might breed.  There is a really great male here in LA known as Cowboy, but he is a larger long legged type.  I have a male out of him that is doing well.  But they are a larger strain.  Would like to find a smaller male.  There was a male posted here named "Mississippi" of similar breeding that fit the bill, but the owner sold him for opening on track too much.
