RPOA Action Alert!

Animal "Rights" vs Animal "Welfare" at the Texas Legislature!

The battle between "Animal Rights" and "Animal Welfare" rages once again at
our state capitol. RPOA's flyer on the differences in philosophies can be
found at:
http://www.rpoatexasoutreach.org/Brochurs_Flyers/Flyer_AW_vs_AR.pdf or
http://tinyurl.com/4hmmoxv . Send it to your elected representatives.
Bills filed this session will affect every animal owner in Texas if passed!

ASPCA, HSUS, and Texas Humane Legislation Network (the HSUS Texas associate)
are holding their LOBBY DAY THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH. These are all
"animal rights" organizations opposed to eating meat, wearing leather,
hunting, fishing, and our Texas rodeo. They seek to legislate all these
activities and more out of existence along with dog and cat breeders.

Do NOT confuse this with our RPOA "Responsible Pet Owners Lobby Day" on
February 24th.

RPOA expects the HSUS "Pet Elimination Bill" to be filed and announced by
Rep. Senfronia Thompson any time now. So it is imperative that you give
your personal representatives a "heads up" about the real agenda of these
extremists who will be visiting them Thursday.

Mail, fax or email your representatives our new flyer "Get Anything Passed
and Come Back Later!" (Legislators are most impressed with letters!) The
flyer can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/66yeru4 or
http://www.rpoatexasoutreach.org/Brochurs_Flyers/Flyer-PMQuotes-HSUS_THLN.pdf .
Quotes are included from Cile Holloway (President, Texas Humane Legislation
Network) and two HSUS state directors in North Carolina and New York who
have publicly stated that is their goal. Read what they say among
themselves! Names of animal "rights" groups are listed.

Since RPOA has had no access to Rep. Thompson's new bill as it's being
written, we can only assume it will be similar to her HB 3180 from last
legislative session. It will NOT be a "Puppymill Bill" or even a commercial
breeder bill as is being touted. It is meant to regulate all dog and cat
breeders in Texas in the future and shut them down. Where will your next
pet come from?

The RPOA definition of a "Puppymill" is: "A facility where dogs are bred
and sold that is in violation of the state Animal Cruelty Statute which sets
the basic standards of care for all animals." This says it all.

If you've never done this before, not to worry!

* Find your representative and senator at:
http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/ .

Print out their contact information. Your personal representatives always
want to hear from their "voting" constituents. Keep it for the future.

* Copy and paste our Talking Points into a document, then personalize your
message. Compose a letter, fax or email for your legislator. You can email
directly from their web pages on the state website at
www.capitol.state.tx.us .

Also phone and register your opposition or support for bills, which will be
recorded by the legislator's receptionist.

Tell them:

1) You support Animal "Welfare" - not Animal "Rights" which means no
breeding and use of animals for anything including food, clothing or pet
ownership.

2) Animal "Rights" Extremists say they want to stop ALL breeding and sales
of dogs and cats while any animals are being killed in shelters - which will
be forever.

3) Only 5% to 7% of dogs and less than 1% of cats in shelters are purebreds
according to American Humane Association's Study and confirmed by several
Texas animal control directors. It is not 25% purebreds as HSUS states;
most are mixed breeds.

4) In addition to anti-breeding legislation, these extremists want to
legislate Mandatory Dog/Cat Sterilization statewide. Gene pools and
bloodlines for all working dog breeds (farm & ranch dogs, hunting, herding,
tracking, etc.) will be lost forever if they succeed with their radical
legislation.
