Troy i think the biggest problems with the chips is the people driving em too hard once installed.  I have seen vehichles driven properly wth 250k+ miles with no problems and then others wont put 5k miles on without having a huge mechanical failure all chipped or programmed.  They do help with the mileage though and give you extra power for towing etc, just don't drive it like a race car and youll be fine.

I have a SMARTY programer and love it, its all how you drive. I drive like a grandpa most the time and I barely have to put my foot on the pedal, But when I need to roll some coal I can. It nice for pullin and anything else you might need some power for lol. I run mine on 120 hp, but I wouldnt run more then 60-90 additional hp on a stock transmission. I personally dont think they help mpg enough to cover the cost of them, I just like the power.
