Just lost my last place to go.. Place didnt have a single dang hog on it anyway, but now im stuck in suburbia hell with no chances of getting in the woods.. The people around here that have cow leases complain about the hogs but wont let you in there with dogs, cause they think every dog is gonna mess with their cows! No public land to hunt without driving three or more hours, and to tell you the truth im just fed up with all the developing here. This isnt the same South West Florida i gre up in, and if it werent for my two year old loving the dogs i woulda thrown the towel in by now. But after the past couple of days im pi$$ed at the world and now the dogs are on the chopping block. I figure ive got about three grand in equipment and mutts, and trying to ind a reason to keep it all. One dog is already posted in the dog trade, shes almost two and not started (which is and isnt my fault.. God knows i been trying to find places to run) and the other two are fixin to be there too. But i know ill kick my self in the arse as soon as they are all gone.. I know alot of you have been where i am now and made a decision one way or the other, but i cant see spending 50-60 bucks a month on feed to keep dogs in a pen. I need some convincing here guys, your my dogs lat hope to stay in the pens they are in. Seeems everyone i know is telling me to just go ahead and get out..

You just got some brand new leads. That ought to be enough reason right there. I got out once before. I'm not gonna say I regret it but I sure as hell missed it. That was a big part of why I got out of it. I wish you the best on finding some places. Patrick

you just need to find some hogs and turn them loose so you will have places to hunt. but if thats not an option coon hunting would be similar and you only need one dog a bag of dog food will last forever with just one dog

If you got some dang good dogs, hang on to them! I had a real pack when i got shut out of my spot. After a while thinking same thing you are right now, sold all my hog dogs, then got hooked back up.
2 yrs later i am still tryin to put a good pack together. good dogs are alot harder to come by than they are to get rid of, and if it makes you feel any better i spend about $160 monthly on feed alone.
Hang in there, it will come together

one place to start in a situation like this is the ranchers with the cows that think your dogs will run them have them bring some cows up and put your dogs through them. Prove to them they won't run cows by letting them see with their own 2 eyes. Make dang sure your dogs don't though or you'll never get a place lol. but I've had farmers tell me that and I offered them to do the same and just being positive my dogs wouldn't run cows and telling them this they said "No that's ok, but the first time I hear of your dogs running my cows or seeing it myself you're out and I'll spread the word". That's one place I'd start bud. Hope you pick up some places

My solution to the same problem is a multi-purpose dog. I use my dogs for squirrel huntin, coon huntin, and everything in between. The dogs get out a lot more and I'm always havin fun. I had a guy tell me today I needed some better hog dogs and I asked him why? They do everything I want them to do. Even if you just had some rat terriers or one cur dog. I've just seen too many people sink a ton of money into equipment and dogs and not have any hogs to hunt. I actually have a ranch with hogs on it but your still not gunna catch me spending money on a dog. Only equipment I've ever bought is a Garmin and really didn't need that. Just sayin', the more you set your self up to be a professional hog hunter, the harder the let down when you find out there's not enough hogs in your area or you lost your lease. I honestly wouldn't let a single person bring their dogs onto my ranch unless they were huntin with me. There's just too much at stake.

Gave it up years ago moved to SW Florida from the middle of the state and had no where to go so I sold my dogs. But when my oldest son got about 12 he went looking back though all my old pics and telling me how he would like to hog hunt bought 2 pups from a friend and tried to find spots down there to go, didn't work as you know, found myself driving 2 hours every weekend to Sebring to hunt so I sold my house and moved. CRAZY I know but at least I have some place to run the dogs. My point at some point your 2 year old will be old enough to go and will want to. Dont give up yet.

Bud, I ain't never been there with dogs, but I've been there with horses more times than I care to admit. I know in my case, I got out of the horses cuz it seemed like every one of them I threw my leg over was a POS and I lost all my good ones cuz of BS. I can't tell you that it was easy, but I can also tell you that each time I quit, my heart was never truly in it, and it wasn't 6 months before I was back in it, and cussing myself because I'd let it all go in the first place and was starting from scratch.
IMO, you've hit a brick wall, and things SUCK, that means you need to get on your knees and do some serious praying. He'll show the way, and help you get where you wanna go if you'll just ask him.
Good Luck!

Offer to take the ranchers huntin with you. They might change their mind. Make sure those dang dogs dont run any cows though lol, and if you have some electricity available be sure and bring it just in case.

. x2. i spend between 100 to 200 bucks a month on feed and got about 10,000 bucks in gear and dogs(not to mention the thousands i spent at the vet last year on various things) and have no where to go thats any good. with land prices as high as they are i am worried about losing that spot to. Reach out to some new people and take them hunting on spots they have rights on( starting to work for me). i hunt one day a week with dogs most people do not like and i love it and i aint quiting so please do not give up. The guy that got me into this tried to get me out by stabbin me in the back and testing my love of my pack so please make this decision yourself and do not make it about feed. no pigs within an hour or more in any direction of me and always chomping at the bit to go even tho i usually dont catch any. sounds like your in the same boat as me u just need hogs to catch. when me and a buddy get outrun alot we threaten to sell our hogdogs and buy chihuahuas and a french bulldog and go to hunting pack rats. little chuckle always helps me out. catching a few a year is better than not going at all and i bet when folks read this u get some invites in your country i know u ever come to OK i would take ya( we probably wouldnt catch none) and it would be a blast. hang in there and something good will happen. happy hunting( or watching dogs if yer me).

go to fl. game and fish web site or water management website they both offer public hunts during the year ive seen good hogs posted on here from cutter bay, c ward, boar ninja, cracker c, south fl hog hunter and more i cant remember but i personally know your feeling. i would not give up yet also check with local deer leases that have hogs and see if they want them removed? most of the ones around here let people with dogs come in during the summer and take out hogs because they eat all the deer corn during the year. good luck keep your head up.talk to noah one day mabye he will take you i know he catches chit loads of hogs.

I cannot even start to fathom the idea of selling off my dogs and quitting.....and I've been right where you are now rd.....I only have 2 places to hunt around where I live right now, used to have none, and these places don't always have hogs on them. Get off your rear and hit some door knockers....make it happen. Good luck to you man, I know exactly what you're going through.

okay heres my advice and experience we moved to a place that werent able to hunt our dogs for two years... We luckily did not sell our dogs and now we are so glad we didnt because now that we have moved to east texas we are finding more places to hunt and people to hunt with... We spend easily 250-300 dollars a month on dog food and that doesnt even include cut gear, our tracking system and collars, shots and things like that but good dogs are hard to come by

I live in Northwest Florida, and this happens to all of us from time to time. If you must sell some, keep the best dogs and keep looking for places to go. This might be a chance to cull "marginal" dogs if you have any. I never tell another serious hog hunter who I contact, or where I hunt. There is too much competition. When I can't get local spots I go to Alabama or Georgia. Hunting season is long here, and I get frustrated alot. Almost all private land is leased to deer hunters, or the land owner deer hunts. Most deer hunters don't get in the woods enough to understand deer or hogs. They don't understand what I do. I am currently waiting on turkey season to get over. Believe that, two of my places have asked me to wait until after turkey season! I don't argue, just smile and play the game. I do the majority of my hunting in the summer, at night. The problem is the land owners and lease holders, won't hunt at night with me, so they don't ever see my dogs work. One land owner only allows me summer, night hunting. He doesn't want to cause problems with his deer hunters. Hogs cost him $8-10,000 a year in his hay operation, but he doesn't want to upset the deer hunters who pay $1,500 a year. That's sounds like simple math, but not to him. I gave up trying to educate and convince people a long time ago. Keep trying, I promise you will regret selling out.
