ok i just picked up a large ranch, with a lot of neighbors i have known my whole life, and another neighboring ranch that is really big that is still pending. I am very happy i got this place its a place i have been kicking around asking for a while and finally did and got a hell yeah get them all. so my question is what do yal do when yal get a new place, go drop your dogs, go look around, bait an area? take your dogs and cruise a while ? I just want to make the best of my hopefully new favorite place in the whole wide world

I would go look around and get an idea of where the majority of the hawgs are and where the thickest places are and all the trails and water and bedding areas ect... and dump a sack of corn right in the middle of them and come back the next morning and knock on their door.

I like to get on Google Earth and check out the satellite images of a property before I hunt it. Often times you can find a pond or creek that is deep in the woods, and you would never know it was there.
Other than that, I ask the landowner where they have been seeing the hogs, then dump the dogs and hope to make a good showing.

I like to take at least one dog everytime when baiting or scouting. Never miss an opportunity to impress a land owner with a caught hog. I never just dump dogs and hope for the best. That's a good way to waste time, and I'm running shorter on time every day. Very few large land owners and deer hunters get in the woods enough to know anything about wildlife. Their game knowledge starts and stops with a truck, ATV, shooting house, and feeder. Be a hog hunter, and make up your own mind. I use Google earth also.

My guess is the rancher wants the hogs gone instead of drawing more in so I would not suggest baiting. If there are hogs there the dogs should be able to find them. Other than that know the fencelines and ask the owner where he has been seeing them. Good luck.

See that's the thing my family has been iredell for like 100 years so everyone knows me and respects my family it's the jack wagons that retire to their 30 acre "ranch" that gives me heck but as far as neighbors go I'm I'n there like swim ware I have retrieval almost any where just can't start on certain places do too hunting leases but don't get me started on that fiasco. I almost went to an old mans house with a club but that's a different story about some people being d bags. But hey some people are just jerks. So I am not worried about neighbors, but if I bait them I would not draw more I'n as much as just put the ones that are all ready there I'n a spot that I know right? And I'm never lOst I just walk I'n the wrong direction I'n the dark alot, and honestly the gamin don't even help sometimes . But the first time me and Landon went hunting we ended up not tresspAsing but crossing a field that no one is really sure who owns, but hey it just happens some times.
