Range seems the same but the signal on the forty goes in and out alot. It always picks right back up but still the 30 never loses signal. Got up to 3/4 of mile on the 40 in heavy timber.

I have 2 40s and my buddy has a 30, I can tell no real difference in range but a lot of difference in battery life.....I have my collars set on a 5 second update rate.....I don't know for sure what his 30 is set on but it's got to be about the fastest for that collar. My 40s have never gone down past half battery in out longest day of hunting, his 30 regularly is at 1/2 battery or less after a regular day of hunting.....plus the 40s are beefed up and tougher I think.

My 40 loses communication alot more than my 30 but as far as range can't tell much difference. I do like the longer "plastic" strap on the 40's alot better

I have two 30s and two 40s! They are all real similar with range but one of the 40s goes in and out on the signal.

I think they are worth the exta cash, but I would buy all the 30s I could cause ive heard once there gone u wont be able to get em anymore, I like the 40 for 2 reasons, I seam to get more range and I was able to mount my marshall system on the dc 40 collor so it eliminates the extra collor the dogs usually wear.

Quinton I'm gonna say no its not worth the money to replace your dc 30s. The only real improvement is the charging design. The first dc 40 I had was junk. It wouldn't pick up past 400 yds I took it back to bass pro to get a dc 30 and they only had dc 40s. So I got a dc 40 and it works just fine but they cut in and out like every one says.

i got mine 40 yesterday and i have to say im not impressed. For one, the intena is conected to the colar with a zip tie. I turned it on  and used it and it lost communication at four hundred yards. Then as I was tracking it i picked it up at .5 miles. I think my dc 30's work alot better, have better collars and dont loose communication as much. I DONT think they are worth the extra money.

Willhunt, probably the best thing for you to do would be buy all 40's and donate your 30's to the 'POOR ALABAMA HOGHUNTERS NEED GARMINS' fund. I can send the address for them to be mailed to once you get those 40's  in. Thank you in advance for helpin out poor hoghunters in need !!!
