I haven't had a problem. After the first two hunts the dog didn't notice it anymore. The one I have ran it on never had a problem with fences and stuff and were able to move their heads good.

I think it looks great.

If you decide to make some more I would buy one for sure.

I wouldnt steal your idea. Just made me think that I'd like to look into making my dogs some custom vests. I like the thought of creating something of my own. But yea, you might have something there. I think I would have went with kevlar wrapped in cordura, but I like the design.

good to hear. they look nice! its real tough finding the right balance between protection and freedom to move adequetly in the brush. i have had dogs get caught on a fence and get thrashed by a mean boar. where i hunt all it is, is super thick brush so movement is a must.

I was joking lol Grin
And thanks, we own a saddle shop so I just used leather because that's what I had, what im comfortable working with, and I know that all our leather cut collars hold up and are "battle tested "lol.
If I had the Kevlar and the stuff to work with it I'd prolly use it

I started on another one yesterday with a two ply collar. I gotta put straps and make all the adjustments to it that I did to the one in the picture. The more I hunted with it I found small flaws such as the length that it reaches between the front legs and such. Made a little wider strap to go around the chest. Like I said little stuff and I had the one I'm working on now cut out since I made the last one.

Leather holds up to the cutting and pokes really well, but its a PIA, to keep in good condition with oiling and maintenance but I think you should b real happy with its cut resistance.

My grandpa has always used leather cut collars that he has made and sold in is store. And they have always worked for us and stay in high demand, it seems like we always have people coming in wanting more made because they like the ones they had made 5 or 10 years ago and are ready for new ones
