That's a tough one Brandon. I dont even like to turn the bulldogs loose anymore if they're bayed near deep water. Had some bad experiences in the water... I'd rather shoot the hog or try to but the bay and get it on dry land.

Thats tough one and it dose happen!
This is not for everybody and I do catch alot of crap, but in tank that I can get around, I try to wait the hog out, let them swim awhile, when its ready to come out let the catch dog catch when its coming to meet you. Sometimes you gotta run around the outside the tank a few times, but I rather that then to have to swim. People that turn there catch dogs loose 100 or more yards out don't have that option, anothr reason I like to be close, not often that you get the oppertunity to choose when and where to catch though.

A few years back it seemed every hog we caught was in water for about a 6 month stretch. I'll wait it out until the hog is in an advantageous position to turn the bulldog loose. I learned the hard way, when you do find out how deep a tank is, you'll wish that you didn't.

Never tell your wife you will be home. My wife always asks and say I hope to be home by daylight but maybe after.

Best way to get on a big bad hog is to go huntin by yourself. From the pic it looks like the hog is standing in shallow water so I would have done the same thing, Sent the bulldog. After that you can't control what happens much..But when you're by yourself it's always easier to look back on it and say what all you should have done. Nice Hog...

We ended up in the creek twice last night...luckily they were both small hogs...on the second hog, the CD would grab and they both would sink..he would let go and the hog would start swimming...we ended up about chest deep and snactched the hog up without a dog on her...Of course once we got the hog to shore they locked on...but it was easy to break them off...we just held the hog under water ( after we stuck it ) and they popped off pretty quick... If it would have been a big hog... we would have been in trouble...

Good boar man, hope your catch dog is alright. Ive been there buddy! The next one will seem easy. I go alone allot and that's a part of it. At least your CD is alive and you still got the hog, it could have been worse.

Good hog!
Hunting by yourself can get tricky. Trying to catch a big boar solo can be down right interesting.

That pistol that was in the truck should have been on your hip. If you don't need it great deal, but when you need it you really really need it.

Well it is nice to have a partner, but not everyone has a gravytrain fireman job and can just go hunting when they want. But the yellers did good, those pups are comin on pretty stought. Not bad everything under 2 years old and can consistently catch hogs. But that could change tomorrow. Anyway gotta go try for another one or two or six.

It can go South in a hurry, and for dang sure when you're by yourself. Glad you got him and saved the dog.....another reason to never go on a hunt without a firearm right there with you always.
