I found this and while I think it is over priced I cant help wonder why the hell vehicle manufactures dont still build trucks like this.  A Ranger or Colorado with a small diesel engine that would get 40 mpg and have 4x4 etc.  I guess they know something we dont.....

How about all the small 4x4 diesels that are offered overseas, but not here in the US.

Give me a Toyota Tacoma crew cab 4x4 with a 4bt cummins, or something similar. It would make a heck of a nice hunting/commuting rig.

They wouldnt be power houses but they would be torquey and should last forever.  If they could build it they would sell a ton of them.  I personally think the gov, oil companies, and car builders take a fishing trip every six months to discuss how to keep this monster they have created fed.

A buddy of ours bought one to use going back and fourth to work and he loves it. The only thing that would worry me about a diesel engine in a light truck is....do you think that the heavy engine would wear the front ends out quickly? Our roads are horrible and those heavy azz diesel engines wear the front ends out pretty quickly on our heavy duty trucks.

Had a Nissan diesel truck two wheel drive. The engine was small and not much power but worked fine on the road. I have swapped engines in a few vehicles. Some are harder than others. As long as you find a similar vehicle it would not be too hard.

x2!!!
Every time I go to Australia, I get jealous of their Toyota and Nissan 4x4 pick ups with their BA turbo diesel engines!!!
Good looking rigs! All the power, much better fuel efficiency, and much safer to haul extra fuel around with  you.

I have been thinking about getting a suzuki samurai and there is a company that offers volkswagen diesel kits and they get insane gas mileage plus they are street legal and they are just same size as a polaris ranger
