Had a friend walk in on a bay and the hog charged and hit him in the thigh got him a 8 inch scar above the knee to the inside of his thigh. Missed the artery by a half inch if I find the picture I will post it. My nephew got caught in the calf when the hog turned on him in a muddy tank and he couldn't get out of the way fast enough. Every one ran him to the ER while my little brother stayed out and killed 4 more hogs. My sister in law will never let us live that one down. LOL

I have heard stories of guys getting femural artery cut and bleeding out. Maybe somebody can have the facts on that rather than being an urban legend.
My uncle when I was real little got cut on the inside of the thigh and dang near hit his femural artery. if it had literally been a hairs width deeper he prolly wouldn't have made it it

Circle C--It was real bad. The cow was stomping and goring him and I was running as fast as I could but there was nothing I could do. Those cows didn't just run off but kind of backed off a little and looked at us. We needed to check on Brian but you could not take your eyes off of them.
The part that scared me so bad was that we had to check for a pulse to see if he was alive. It took him a while to come around and he was out of it.
People have made fun of me for years because I take so much gear with me--especially vet supplies for the dogs. It sure came in handy that day. Always hear "I got one of those at home" and I always tell them "it had just as well be on the moon for all the good it is going to do you".

You hear a bunch on stories of hogs, cows and snakes getting people. But I think the most dangerous part of hog hunting is driving to the woods or years of greasy hambugers on the old ticker! If you look at it other type of hunting more killed by falling out of a tree or shot by there buddies. A lot of senseless "accidents" that could be easily avoided.

All of the close encounters we've experienced have involved cattle not hogs. Had a buddy damn near stomped to death by a bull. I was only 15' away and felt pretty helpless.

A guy was hunting with us one time and he had a Honda Rubicon. His dog was young and started chasing some cows in an oat field. He goes to chasing the dog. I come around some brush leading to the oat field and notice that his 4 wheeler has all 4 tires pointed up toward the sky. The owner was laying a few feet away and he was hurt. Not bad hurt but pretty bad. As soon as he come around he went to the doctor.
I was hunting over on the other side of Nacogdoches in 2000 and there were some big hills on this place. When I climed the hills I ran out of gas but not not out of breath. The next day I went to the doctor and he set me up to have a cathater check of the old heart on Wednesday. They cut me Thursday and I had 5 bypasses. Could have cashed my chips in on that one.

I had some cows come up and the bull came towards me. There was nowhere to go so I grabbed the only stick I could find. It was a brittle no good stick so I held it like a cattle prod and the bull slammed on the breaks. I had to walk backwards a long way to a fence. I worry about the cattle more than hogs.

I got cut pretty good right below my left knee, I was spurtin blood everywhere. They put my muscle back together with some dissolvable sutures and then stitched up the outside. I still came out better than my catch dog and the hog. That was probably 8 years ago and I still feel it sometimes.

I did a couple of internet searches and found one death due to a wild hog in Germany, that might be true. The others were what if...stories.
I had a wild bull charge me one night. One of the curs caught it and she went for a wild ride. There was no way to control either one so, I walked off and hoped for the best. She let go and joined us a few minutes later, like nothing happened.
I see snakes almost every trip to the woods. In fact I see so many, that I rarely think about it or mention them anymore.
