This is somethin' I take dead serious... and it amazes me how many people don't seem to remember/care to do once a hog is caught and you get there to HELP.

Once your dogs commit, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get there as quick as possible and HELP them not get hurt anymore than they might have already.

Nothin' makes me madder than to see a caught and controlled boar hog get his mouth on a dog... no reason for it.

I chew on my help every hunt.... it's almost become a ritual... that I tell anyone that hunts with me... once the hog is caught and we got control...

SWEEP THE DAMN DOGS OFF HIS FRONT END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if they're caught, pull the dogs out from in front of that hog so they're along his side and out of the line of fire!!!!!

Once they're back in a safe spot I can relax, but out in front you just askin' for a pointless injury!!!!!!

.... course it helps when you ain't using 32 dogs....

I hear you anguish bro. Seen to many good dogs hurt bad or completely ruined after the hog has been legged. Worst part is when you take new help and you leg a sure nuff curly by yourself and the help is still on top of the creek bank lookin down.

Sure enough way to not get invited again.

I prefer sticking all hogs unless it is to be used for training... Grin Smiley

Yep I hear ya. I have been perty clanish about my hunting partners for years due to incidents. Just recently have I began to branch out a little with a few good folks on here. Good hunting partners are solid gold these days better keep em close and stay loyal.

Usually one of us will leg, flip, and kneel on the hog while everyone else involved catches and clips dogs up. Now if it is only me and my husband and it is a huge hog, sometimes we will leave the cd caught on the ear until we have the hog in hobbles. It may not work for everyone but it works great for us. I don't want my dogs to get cut or injured but I also feel that my cd is there for my protection when needed.

I can only flip one direction because I can only really use one hand. People always grab the dog on the right ear and leave the one on the left. That is they way I have to flip. I need to go get more practice with my one-handed flip. I guess I should tell people which dog to get Grin

I can relate, I am left handed and do everything backwards. A good cd will adjust and hang on anyway.  Grin

I have another surgery to go. I am just going to learn to flip with one hand. I am going to have to do some pen work for me Grin But even when I'm all healed up I'll be able to flip a hog with one hand tied behind my back.

I personally leave a dog on a big hog till I got the sucker tied or killed, just had too many stand up on me when I "thought" I had 'em under control  Grin

My point is... I have no problem with a dog caught on a hog while I'm doin' my thing... AS LONG AS HE AIN'T STANDING OUT IN FRONT GETTIN' CHEWED ON!

I think a lot of people don't understand this...

Basically, as soon as you get aholt of that hog, grab any dogs that are out in front and pull them along side of the hog where they can't GET CHEWED ON...

Grab 'em by the flank, the tail, I don't care!!!  But if I see a dog get ruined cuz I didn't make the effort to help get him out of a dangerous spot.... well, that just makes me sick.

I know some that want their dogs head on or whatever you call it. I try to never correct anyone's dog unless they tell me to. So I would say to tell people what you expect. So many times people get someone mad and they don't say anything. I will say upfront that I had a head injury and it makes it hard for me to get along with people. I damaged the part of the brain that controls things like manners and such. I sure wish people would tell me when I don't follow some rule of etiquette.

Dub, you been mesing up sinse you got on here... Grin ;DBut you are excused angel

I do not like correcting other peoples dogs even though I believe I am doing them a favor but I will do what is needed to keep the dog from injury if I can help it.

I don't mind someone correcting my dog if they know exactly how to do it because some folks can and do ruin dogs at the bay.

I have seen too many hunters get too excited at the bay... I'll just leave it at that.
