Action Alert on Texas HB 1451, the HSUS Anti-Breeder Bill

Senate Public Hearing scheduled for HB 1451, regulating dog and cat
breeders, at
1:30 pm tomorrow (Thursday), May 12th, Room 2E.20 in the Senate Criminal
Justice Committee.

If you can attend this hearing, please let us know. E-mail: rpoa@texas.net

* Everyone should sign a card of OPPOSITION and you do NOT have to speak to
the committee. We need warm bodies to back up our speakers. You can watch
the hearing on
the State Legislature website if you cannot attend. www.capitol.state.tx.us

Talk is circulating about possible amendments to the bill for sporting
dogs, working dogs, and/or show dogs. This was
attempted in California and soundly defeated because there is no way to
define such
dogs. We must present a united front at the legislature and not be divided.
"Divide and Conquer" is the mantra of the animal rights extremists. This is
a bad bill with an HSUS "agenda" and must be defeated.
Texas Humane Legislation Network President Cile Holloway has publicly stated
that they want to get anything passed and come back later.

Contact all committee members below and your own senator in case it goes to
a Floor Vote. Ask them to:

* Please vote "NO" to HB 1451, the HSUS and Texas Humane Legislation
Network Anti-Breeding Bill.

* HB 1451 is fundamentally flawed and cannot be fixed with amendments.

* Exemptions granted today can easily be removed in the next legislative
session. Rest assured HSUS will be back every session no matter what passes
this time.

* The purpose of the bill is not to regulate dog and cat breeding in Texas
but to eliminate it.
