I have a gyp that has 1/4 redbone and 3/8 leapard bred into her with some bmc and cat cur breeds. She's a jam up bay dog and has the most beautiful distinct bawl mouths that can be heard a mile away. She has struck many hogs for me but hardly any of them have produced pork. She's what I'd call semi open. She'll bawl on the start of a track and just every once in awhile until she's lookin' at a hog and you definately know she's found lookin' one in the eyes. and of course like everyone else it is usually a freakin' runner. She has trailed 3 hogs this past weekend and the shortest one was 1500 yrds and the longest was 1 1/2 miles. Is she giving the hogs too much fair warning? is that why they seem to break and run alot farther? I have caught hogs behind this gyp but I'm getting tired of chasing hogs and ready to start catching some. I'm afraid she is more then likely the problem to not catching hogs. Will she always be like this or is there something I can do to get her to stop this? She is 2 years old and can get some gone and stay there but like I said I'm ready to start catching hogs and she could be for sale before too long if she turns out to be my problem. Thanks for any help/input on this.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE. If she can't produce hogs then damn sure don't breed her. Only Breed what works instead of trying to MIX PAINT, it sevral years away from being good and a bunch more CRAP dogs in the world to end up on the classified ads and passed around to a bunch of Newbies
I would try taking another dog that IS PROVEN to produce hogs to that place (leave her at home) and see if it works better and then if it does try running her with that dog that gets the job done. If she goes back into the situation and with Negative results then you know she is causing the hogs to break for some reason.

If you can tell that she is looking at the hog and then it breaks, it doesnt sound like its her trail barking that is making them run...
Is this dog very gritty?
Maybe you are just getting on some good runners... sounds to me like she is doing her job - find em and stick with em...

I agree. Sounds like she is doin her job. If ur huntin a property with runners then thats just the way it is. Sounds like a pretty good dog to me if she is indeed findin hogs for ya on a regular basis. If the hogs are runnin that bad on ya on this property then you might have to resort to some rcd's. jmo

I've had her with an honest dog. I had 2 strike, 1 bay, and a pup out and everyone of them were together. That's why it don't seem like deer trashing. Gonna try to kick her out of the pack once this weekend and then find some one with some rough dogs one night this weekend and try to figure this deal out. Shank em you run rough dogs don't ya?

had the same problem with a plott/ridgeback gyp i used to have she would run them forever but never stop them and never actualy put a hog on the ground for me so i sold her and i was running her with my other two strike dogs that are gritty as they come. i feel like she gave the hogs to much warning by yipping on track

alot of people have good luck with mouthy dogs, we dont ,we have a hard enough time getting them to bay with silent dogs, you could always get some rcds and pack to her and see if that helps any
