So some of these hogs look like alot of their hair is gone, is this mange or do they just loose hair in the summer?

Not sure if they shed their hair or if they rub it off on trees. I don't think that it is mange. Good question though because we have caught some that were wooly like a bear and some that were almost bald! I do know that they love to rub up on trees alot. They get hog lice in the warmer months and I think it makes them itchy. They also love to wallow in burnt motor oil. Gets rid of the lice and makes their skin soft I guess.

True forgot about the lice... The reason I ask is because I have a pup that has dermadex mange... I took her to the vet a hour ago, are their any remedys to cure this other than spending alot at the vet on dips that aren't 100%

I have cured dogs with mange with good old $10 Happy Jack. Got to put a thick coat of it on them real good, all over and then lock them up in a horse trailer or something over night. It takes about a week for that stinkin stuff to wear off but its always worked for me.

Don't wanna start nothing, but let me say in my experience you'll battle demodectic mange for the remainder of this dogs life. I will never fightit again unless the dog has already proven its a true champ. Even then I would burn rubber to the vet to have it neutered. Just my opinion, no offence.

I just had some experience with demedex, The pup was in extremely poor shape when I bought it from someone other than the breeder and within a week he was loosing hair. I went to two vets and both said cut the dogs nutts and pay them a ton... I know the blood line the pup came from and trust the breeder way more than any vet after talking to him I trusted that it was not something genetic... Two months later after getting the pups immune system back up and going he has a full good looking coat with ZERO meds...Building the immune system is nothing more than making sure the dog is fed properly and is free of worms and such. I did a ton of reading on demedex and found several articles supposedly written by new age vets stating that ALL dogs have the demedex mite it is just the immune system being weak that allows the mange reaction to happen.. It went on to say that something like 85% of dogs if left alone would develop and immunity to the mite and start killing off the over population. This is the case in most Localized demedex cases the generalized demedex cases are usually the ones that are genetic and will come back if treated...I am not claiming to know it all about this just throwing my 2 cents in to the hat I hope the best for your dog...
