Anyone ever used this cross before? I might have acquired one, just wondering the pros and cons.

A bandog...mostly used in personal protection/sportwork. It's a crapshoot...could turn out dog aggressive, could turn out man aggressive, or both. It also may turn out to be the best catchdog you've ever owned...just know that you may get the other 3 possibilities as well.

Thanks for the info guys. Did a little research on them after I posted. It was either me or the pound for this guy. He is about a year old and seems very mannered, picked him up today and introduced him to the group. No signs of aggression so far, but I will wait until he gets more acquainted with them all before he makes "the cut". Just couldnt pass it up for the price (free)

Darn right. I woulda give him a try too. What's the worst that could happen? You feed a dog for a while that doesn't work out? Shoot, sounds fair enough to me. Good luck with him, sounds like he could be a goodun for you.

An ol' boy we know out of Palacious runs some mastiff/curr crosses in the grain fields and swears by them. They look like big jug-headed yellow dogs.

I OWNED A MASTIFF/PITT CROSS NAMED major. He was one of the beat catch dogs I've ever owned. The only problem I had with him was when I turned him to the bay he would find other hogs on the way. This is how he met his maker. He caught old big by himself with no bay dog there & I couldnt hear nothing, so that was the end. After he got on hogs a few times he started using his nose which is bad for a catch dog in my oppion.
I hope you have a little better luck than I did with that cross.
