I have seen quite a few small trailers lately that have these water tanks up on the neck and I was wondering if anyone could give me the reason for it. They aren't big enough to be hauling water to cows, but they are larger then what you need to wash up etc. The only thing I could come up with was for toung weight on the trailer. Anyone have any ideas?

Is it mounted and plumbed? Might just be a place to haul it since it won't fit on the flatbed. Dry as Texas is maybe it's for the horses, since a bunch of ranches are drying up, when cleaning off a dry ranch the horses have water........ maybe.

Cody you may be right. This particular trailer has a smaller tank in the trailer as well about head high in the very front, if you look hard you can see it in the picture. I could definitly believe it was for horse water.

Matt in the old days we hauled our cattle sprayers on the tough of our trailers. But that was before they had pour for flies. But that tank you are showing looks a little small for that.

it could b for a trail ride. not knowing how far the water trough or accessable watering points are, they bring it with them to ensure they have water for their horses or even themselves. i dont know why you would want to add tht much wait to the axel, the trailer should add enough if it is for traction in slippery conditions.

Yall are probably right, the next time I catch one of these guys at the feed store or something I am going to ask them about it. I have never seen them before and then here recently I have seen half a dozen or more and they are all large tanks around 50-75 gallons. I guess they dont want to have to fill them up everyday.

did u say trail riders!! Lol just jokin... I doubt it's for trail ridin tho, and 55 gallons of water won't go very far for a couple hot horses, wouldn't last all day much less a few days... Doubt it's for traction, I haul water for my dogs and horses when it's this dry.

If that guy is useing that trailer for what it is built for he aint going to be on any trail rides. I use to pull them with a dog shade and chains over the bed of truck. But dident have water tank. Me and dogs drank from ice chest.Ok some may not know the half top is to pitch your rope over and drag a cow or yearling you have roped into trailer. transfer to front, cant jump out.load horse in back ready for another. On Ft. Hood 220,000 acres open range the all metal trailers rattled too much. Scare cows off for miles. Ok I dont know about the water tank.

I guess your right about trail riding. You would nt want to use water for 4wheelers. I used to ride horses on trail rides and 100gals of water lasted a couple days for 2 horses. we didnt have dogs in tow so i guess thats whay it lasted us longer, them dogs sure can drink a lot of water. I guess if sheep were used then 55gals would last a day for 2 hot sheep.

A trail ride horse works about as hard in a week as a good cow horse does in a few hrs so naturally a Workin horse is gonna b thirstier...I'm not a sheep farmer so don't no how much they drink but I do know horses and Workin cattle and by the time u water 3 cow dogs and 2 cow horses and wash Ur hands and splash some on Ur face a 55gal barrel is empty at the end of the day if Ur somewhere thats dry as it Is around here. And wasn't knockin trail riders... Once a yr I am a trail boss on one for the Shriners childrens benefit
