You have to look at the dog not the breed. Sounds like an accident breeding to me. I wouldnt waste my time on a pup with that breeding. Might as well put time in on a dog that a better chance into turning out.

Me and a buddy were jokin bout the very thing the other day. You cant find a more pure form of natural hunting ability that is found in a beagle. Don't care if it was born in a city apartment or country kennel. Throw em in the woods and they are gonna hunt something. I would say WTF try it and prove us all morons for sticking with our own preference of dogs. Guess if they work out you could start your own type of dog and call em Beggits or Peagles.

I agree even a pet store beagle will try to hunt. I would try a beagle X pit, if it was free.
I talked to a deer hunter last season with a pure bred beagle that would find and bay hogs. He shot several hogs, so the dog couldn't be all bad.

Never liked a beagle much, I like to catch my hogs instead of run them. Most pits are athlete's doesnt mean there hog dogs. I would try and look at the parent's an see how they act or hunt.

Haha I got three beagles here that my son runs on rabbits and they will all bay the hell out of a hog in my bay pen. Actually they are hard to get beat off. The lil boogers will actually put teeth to one as well. I will try and get some video cause its hallarious.

we dropped a shoat out in a field with about a dozen of our rabbit dogs and they swarmed that thing and looked like ants on a piece of candy

I thought beagles would be great hog dogs but I think most are concerned with them getting easily dispatched by a boar or too much barking on the trail. Please keep us updated with your dogs progress.
