Several years back I had a litter of pups pick up parvo in my yard and lost all but one pup. I have heard once its in your yard it is there permanently. I have also heard it is easier to pick up when there is alot of rain. I have a two pups that are not fully vaccinated. I am wanting to let em out of the kennel to get a chance to explore the yard, what are the chances of them pickin up the parvo?

i know this much.....Parvo Sucks.... the vet told me a controlled burn of your yard gets rid of it... i went to the dollar store and bought 12 2 gallon bottles of bleach and sprayed in the yard with a pump up sprayer. Kock on some wood I have not had an issue scince.

If they do happen to get it, hand feed them little balls of raw hamburger meat and shoot Pedialyte or Gatorade down there throats. They will get through it and you will probably save every one of them.

This is not true....pups that have had even 3 or 4 rounds can still get it...I have had a rough year with parvo and pups... I also have a 10 month old pup that was in teh same pen with two of his littermates that died of parvo. He was laying in the discharge and never got sick... Parvo is a tricky SOB

What y'all have to remember is, there is a newer tougher strain 154 parvo. It will over ride the commonly used vaccines and knock 'em out quick. I have a friend with bird dogs that have nearly lost everything in their kennels to the 154 strain and these dogs were 3-4 years old and current on all vaccinations.

I haven't had a problem in years, had sum pups get it before that were vaccinated so I believe they can still get it. Always heard it takes 7-8yrs to get out the ground. I used pine-o-pine all over the yard after an old man told me it would get it gone and haven't had a problem since so in my opinion pine sol works for Gettin it out of the ground

Parvo does not live that long in the yard. It is very contagious and people can carry on their shoes and clothes. A dog can pass it through the fence with no contact at all.
When I lost a puppy to Parvo I got every dog I had a Parvo shot. I bleached where the dog was laying when I found him. I threw the kennel away I used to take him to the vet. I washed my truck out with water and soap. I have had three more puppies through that all had their Parvo shots on time and no problem. It is so easy to spread that you have to get all the Parvo vaccinations on time.

Just luck probably... Cuz the vaccine DOES NOT prevent them 100% from catching parvo

I also have a 10 month old pup that was in teh same pen with two of his littermates that died of parvo. He was laying in the discharge and never got sick... Parvo is a tricky SOB Parvo has an incubation period of at least a week or so. The pup can be infected with parvo and the pup looks fine and he gets the parvo vaccine but the pup will come down with the parvo and probably die anyway. Another virus that never gets talked about is the corona virus. It is hard for the VET to identify the difference between Parvo and Corona because they are so much alike. I lost pups back in the 1980's to corona but I give the 7 in 1 plus corona. It should be called the 8 in 1 vaccine. Haven't lost a pup since to either virus. The 7 in 1 is much cheaper that the 8 in 1 but is useless as far as I am concerned. I suspect that most pups that die from parvo are really dying from coronavirus and not parvo. I also believe that most of the folks that are loosing pups blame the 7 in 1 vaccine. The thought is that the vaccine was bad...I NEVER USE THE 7 IN 1...

The thought is that the vaccine was bad...I NEVER USE THE 7 IN 1... [/quote} Thats just an opinion, and in my opinion a bad one... Corona is not as widespread as parvo, and 7 in 1 vaccine is not the blame for any dog getting parvo and is not totally useless... Its missing corona virus vaccine mayb because corona is not the killer of most puppys, possibly on a few occasions but a 7 way vaccine is a good vaccine, and just a straight coronavirus vaccine is not gonna do the trick either... Pups that get and die from parvo may get it by bad luck or contaminated environments or other dogs but the 7 way vaccine does not cause pups to get coronavirus and ive never heard anyone blame 7 in 1 vaccine for their pups dying... just my opinion I have used it for years and have had no problems with pups in many years and i know that the most vet checked healthy vaccinated puppy can still get parvo.... just like a flu shot dont mean u wont get the flu, it lowers the risk. same with dog vaccines bleach or pine sol will get it out of the ground, thats probably the best way to keep the pups from getting it instead of relying 100% on vaccines that just reduce the risk...JMO
