Why is it so hard to get a darn drilling rig job?!? i have done everything i know to do to try and get on a rig somwhere but i have had no luck. Had a lady in a main office tell me straight out that she cant hire anyone with out experince, that my only shot was to know someone. Which i do and its my cousin, well i tryed to get him to help but no luck even talked to his driller and he told me to call the drilling superintendent for west texas for his company and faxed him an app. a while back and still NO LUCK. I am 20 years old with a wife and 3 kids, its not like im gona quit with no notice, i am in very good shape cuz my current job i climb and build radio and communication towers and i am used to being out of town for weeks at a time. the reason i want a new job is my current job the hours are slaking off, but i have always wanted to work on a rig and work my way up. I cannot figure out what i am doing wrong if anyone knows or can give me any ideas im all ears. im just tired of my financial problems and im looking for a rig job so i can support me and my family, so maybe i can get somwhere in life instead of barly scraping by.

I heard on the radio here in NM that there is a firm hiring drilling rig workers to hit up the permean basin.

Timms I am  directional driller and every rig i go on is short handed. I work mostly in louisiana but i heard Naubors drilling, trinidad, and energy drilling are hiring if i can get more info i will be glad to help. The lady is right it is always better if you know someone but it shouldn't be that way.

I'm always looking for those young and healthy guys about 25 years old with 30 years of experience. It's better if they are married, have loads of kids, new house, new trucks, a bass boat, and a weekend home. That's the kind of people I can depend on. They always want to work!

Man not to talk u into another profession but have u ever thought about being a operator at a plant!! Thats what i am and i have a wife that stays home with three kids and im doin dang good for my self!! Its a great job the hour can vary but different planta have different shifts some are four on four off and some work a crazy scedhule with a 7 day off period each month.. Each working at least 40 hours a week not including if u make overtime! Pm me if u want more info i know my work exxon mobile is testing in a few weeks!

Just wait a few more months, maybe the beginning of the year.  If the Gulf ever picks back up there will be a "mass exodus" of experience from land rigs back to offshore.  The timing depends on how many drilling rigs get moved back from the foreign countries, where they are currently drilling. Then the land companies will probably be more willing to hire.     

The Obama administration Gulf drilling moratorium has thrown off the balance and some of the guys that worked off shore are working on land rigs or in foreign countries now.       

I find it a little strange that companies are looking so hard for experience.  Land drilling is booming but not just in Texas, there are land rigs all over the U.S. from Pensylvania south and almost coast to coast.

I'm sure your age is what's hurting you. We can't hire anyone under 21 because of our insurance. Yours would be sky high for someone to pay with your kids. They would almost be paying more on your insurance than your salary since you don't have any experience. You should look for a job with a service company for a few years if you really want to get in the oilfield or start your own business. With as much there is going on in south texas right now you could make money at anything.

Rowan is hiring 713 621-7800. Better to go off shore than land right now land is for sale. H&P is usually hiring don't have their number but u can google it. Noble, seadril, and transocean are always hiring offshore. If your not opposed to over seas work get you a passport and list that it will help. Over seas could be anywhere though ( north sea, south America, Saudi, etc...). Easier to move up on land more money off shore. Keep in mind  mom and pops drilling might no be to safe, and you do have kids.

If you don't mind the hours (at least 80 a week) you may want to look into a hydraulic fracturing company. I am on the corporate safety side, but business is booming and we are hiring in different locations all over TX, PA, & ND. You need to have a fairly clean driving record and no felonies.  Shoot me a PM and I will send you some information. I will be honest and say with the amount of hours, it is more of a lifestyle change than a job, but those who can stick it out have the potential to make some serious boot.

  In my opinion the best way to work with oil rigs is through one of the service companies.  They are a little harder to get on with but once your foot is in the door you advance through the pay scale alot faster.  Haliburton, Schlumberger, FMC, Cameron etc.   They dont advertise much, so you would have to just keep bugging them until they put you on the payroll.  I have been working ROV's for the last 12 years.  I am pretty much a lifer at it now.  But with the gulf slowing down I have spent the last 7 months in Nigeria.  Currently I am right in the middle of a 6 week hitch on the Saipem 3000.  Been here 3 days for every day I have been home.  Makes it hard on Meagan but we do what we have to to get by.  Keep in mind that if you plan to go over seas some of the hitches can be quite long. 

  Keep your head up and keep bugging all the companies.  Eventually one of them will take you on.

There is a company called schlumberger, pronounced schlum-ber-zhay or schlum-ber-jay. Military experiance would be a great plus. When i got out in 2010, i went to twc n drop my paperwork off with vet help desk n bout a wk later i got a call from their recruiter n had a job interveiw the followin wk. Didnt get the job bc of my broke back during an air assault but the company seemed to be a great place to work. Good luck to you, n if all else fails, the military is always hiring

The military told me no..... because they said my diploma isnt worth the paper its written on, did an online program to finish because I dropped out to work to provide for my family
