Kasitchie National Forest Plan Amendment #9 Prohibiting Dog-Deer Hunting has been over turned. A GREAT VICTORY FOR ALL DOG HUNTERS ACROSS THE SOUTH.

TDHA joined forces with the Mississippi Dog Hunters Association and the Louisiana Sportsman's Alliance to appeal the decision to ban Deer Dogs from the Kasitchie National Forest in Louisiana.

December, 16th 2010, TDHA submitted an appeal that was selected with 6 others ( out of 729 appeals filed ) because it was found to be sufficiently comprehensive to allow a meaningful review and response.

The seven appeals were considered and James M. Pena, reviewing officer for the chief, Washington DC office of the US Forest Service, has overturned the ban on Deer Dogs in the Kasitchie National Forest.

TDHA is very proud to be a big part of this appeal and to have come out on the winning side.

This successful appeal shows that when the dog hunting organizations across the south join forces and present a united front we can have an impact. This successful appeal has set the ground work for all dog hunting groups to stand up and fight for our rights.

TDHA is involved in many things to help protect and promote dog hunting, help TDHA help you by joining TDHA today if you are not a member. If you are a member THANKS, you helped TDHA stand up for Dog Hunters rights, AND WE WON!

Thanks,
Paul Teegardin, President TDHA

Any news on the national forest in Texas?

The SHNF issue happened in a completely different way. That decision being made at the local level with zero way to appeal the decision. Everyone we have had work on that issue has hit a brick wall, myself included.

If you have any suggestions I am all ears. The only thing that could possibly work is a effort similar to what was organized for the problem in KNF.
That would need to be headed by someone who lives in that area that can have some frequent personal contact with those in charge at SHNF. After my conversations with the man that made the decision it was pretty clear that, as far as they were conserened, there are two types of hog doggers in that area. Ones that hunted with-in the rules and ones that did not. The hunters that did not abide by the rules and hunted when they should not have been in the Forrest ruined it for the good guys.

The Golden Rule, rules in Texas. Those that have the gold make the rules. The rich guys like to sit in a heated stand with feeders complete with bells and to duck hunt. Poor and middle class run dogs.  Like dogmen are lower class. All legislation past, present and future will will reflect this attitude.

If the guy responsible for Sam Houston National Forest is being an ass, the only way to make him rethink will be to expose him and what he has done. Public outrage can be a powerful tool. I dont know how it could be handled in a situation like this, but there are plenty of organizations that look for people that over step their bounds and  that is what this guy has done IMO.

It is obvious normal channels are not working, so thinking outside the box sounds necessary in this case.

Sorry, I was talking about the deer dog rule in Mississippi.  I should have been more clear.

Paul T,
Thanks so much for all of your hard work.  Look for my check shortly.

Bobby B,

I agree.  Maybe someone can contact the local news stations in that area.  In the New Orleans area several stations regularly cover stories that expose people and/or situations like this.  They use the term investigative reporting quite often.

This guy has a boss somewhere.  Are the hogs causing problems at SHNF?  If so this guy is sticking his neck on the block by not taking every opportunity to have them removed.

this is sort of old news, but it is great to hear that a victory was won for dog hunters.  I would be willing to participate in efforts to get dogs allowed back in the SHNF.

so who would take over if the guy who banned dogs in SHNF just up and had an accident that prevented him from ever being able to work again, just sit in a wheel chair
