Where I'm from, they both refer to the meal you eat in the evening usually between 6:00 PM AND 9:00 PM.

I say play her game. Ask her if she would like to join you for a nice romantic dinner out on the town. When she gladly accepts, take her to McDonalds for a 20 pcs nugget to split and single $1.00 drink to share around 12:00 PM. WA-LA, dinner is served. Just saying.

Lunch is a yankee word that got brought down. So Sunday dinner is after church. Whoever said Sunday lunch? I figure you can say lunch and supper if you ain't from the south But my momma made sure I did not wear my hat inside or say lunch even if the school was run by yankees. But you can talk yankee if you want yankee.

They didn't call it the LORDS DINNER! Thats the very argument I use, Break fast, lunch if you carry it with you, dinner if you sit down and eat midday and supper in the evening. Here is another that runs thru me. Turkey and dressing or turkey and stuffing for Thanksgiving ?

My mom and dad are from the North. They make stuffing together Thankgiving morning. It is baked inside the bird itself. Thus, the term "stuffing". My mother-in-law is a true Southern belle. She makes corn-based "dressing". It is baked in a caserole dish. My wife won't eat anything but her momma's dressing. I personally don't care for dressing.

I dont know yall, my mawmaw is bout the countriest ol gal to ever squat between cotton socks and she always told me to be home by dinner time, which was right after dark. It was dinner if we could eat it wearing our underwear or smelling like work, supper was when people important enough to break out the good dominos

I was mostly talking smack. I have heard it too. I did ask my mom what was right and she said it was dinner and supper if I wanted to eat at home. I think it was the same as making me say yes mam and no mam and all the other stuff just to teach me manners. I don't care what you call it if I get to eat But I did like making the yankee comment to get at tmatt and whoever else.
