A friend of mine bowed his neck and decided to get to the bottom of the Big Boy mystery this weekend. After talking with lots of men, Mr. Perry included, he was lead to Bill Bay. Mr. Bay said he bred the dog in 1972 and he was the best dog around those parts at the time. Big Boy was by Woodruffs Coaly, a black and tan, and of a gyp Mr. BAy owned that was part Leopard. Mr. Bay also said that some of the Woodruff dogs were shaggy haird which would exsplane the hair on some of my dogs.

Coaly being a black and tan could confirm the suspicions of what happened to the other Big Boy X Blondie pups.

So did Lloyd Perry confirm it was the same bigboy that he referred to in the book?

Mr. Perry said he had heard of the dog but he didn't know anything about him. I am pretty sure they were not closely related. I think, if you dig deep enough and far enough back, the east Texas dogs are more closely related than people realise.

The Coaly dog of Mr. Woodruffs was a cur dog.

I bought a dog about two years ago to use as an outcross to the line of dogs I've been hunting for a long time that was traced back to the Big Boy X Blondie cross.  I lost him a couple months ago, but fortunately did get a litter of pups which are now six months old.  He was as fine of dog as I've hunted behind.  I sure have high expectations for the litter.

One of Ricky Drivers and my wifes cousins brought me a big stack of papers and pictures yesterday along with a tape of Ricky and Ben talking. I recognized most of the dogs that belonged to Ricky but some of the pictures were taken at Ben's and I will have to get with him or Clue to identify. I need to find a casset player today, to listen to the tapes.

It would be real nice to put all theses bits and pieces of the subject all to together in one topic I know many  folks are interested and this has been talked about in many different posts over the past year or so possible on of moderators would want to sift it all together one day would be pretty good reading.

Skoal and I will go through the pictures this weekend and pick out some to scan and share with folks that are interested. I will ask Ben's permission before I let someone listen to the tapes. He was asked about what he knew about some dogs used in a couple of breeding programs in 1997 and was painfully honest.
