With Bow Season coming up fast I got a question maybe somebody can help with. Last year I set up my ground blind in a really good spot but the problem I had was TICKS, I pulled 5 ticks off me after hunting the blind (3 were on big jim and the twins). I need to know if you know of anything I can put down that won't spook the deer, I'm thinkiing of trying Lime but not sure if it will work for ticks. I hate these little nasty bast@$ds..Does anybody got any ideas how to keep these blood sucker out of my blind?
Answers I already know;
hunt from a elevated blind
hunt from a tri-pod
don't go hunting - not an option

I don't know if it repels ticks but you might try a thermacell when you go hunting. If not I would put something out to kill them before opening day. 7 dust or something, I had black widows in mine and I sprayed the inside with raid and still had deer on camera the same evening.

May try some raid bombs a day before you hunt. I had a terrible time with hornets last year. They got me and my son real good. If that doesn't work you may try 7 dust or something similar. Good luck with the hunting.

I grew up hunting deer and people over react and spend a ton of money on scentlock and odorless soap. I don't worry about all that but I am sure it helps...best thing is set up on the downwind side. I would use a good insecticide for ticks or spray a little diesel around...my brother soaks a small rag in diesel and leaves it in the deer stand until the following season. he swears by it... |

You could spray permethrin. Works on most everything I have sprayed. Ofcourse I mix heavy also not much odor. Most hardware stores as well as Tractor supply carries it.

thanks guys..I hunt in deep South Texas and the ticks are way worse then they are here in Ft. Bend Cnty., I believe I'll try the Permethrin..anything on the ground gathers ticks and I'm tired of it..I have tri-pods out there but I prefer a good placed pop-up ground blind for bow hunting.

mix you up a lil gallon jug of insecticide. I like tempo or bayer and spray inside and around your blind. Don't think the smell would affect anything and you should be good if you do that once every couple weeks just as a precaution.

Really Internet hunter tell me more about stalking, I've never heard of this concept I was just mess'n with you. I don't know anyone that never uses a blind. I will see how many tags I use on the internet this year. I am not talking about stalking either. I know lots of people that stalk and many do it better than me. You probably stalk better than me. I just wear my ghillie suit which is like wearing a blind and back into a bush. I do that a lot on the internet. A ground blind is the same thing just not as portable. |

Relax dub I'm just jackin with you man, we stalked down there but it's only 350 acs and usually 4 to 5 hunters so we stand or blind hunt most the time. I will walk some but not like I would like to.

cedar shavings or scent free deet spray(walgreens) works just spray the lining at home and let it dry and it will work atleast till it rains
ive stalked with a rifle does that count?

I would spray anything that has any odor all over. Put it in your blind but then a little on the feeders and trails. So if there is a scent the deer get used to it quickly. Do it as quic as possible.

I try to put all my ground blinds on the south west side of my feeders, seems to work pretty good, I have also put a pallet at the bottom just to keep off the ground, down here in Hebbronville you never know what could be in the blind with you lol

especially this time of year..had everything from ticks, coach whips, scorpions, tarranulas, and once a rattle snake..the rattler came in once I was already in the blind, scared the shat out of me when I looked down and saw it. Me and the blind went straight up and I went one way and the blind went the other. good times  |
