Sad to report the loss of my catch dog (Buddy) during a hunt Saturday night.  The only good news is I killed the boar.

Since I live here on the coast, fishing is a big part of my life.  This summer I fishing in the Galveston Redfish Series and several other smaller tournys.  I won two smaller tournaments and placed respectfully in the Galveston Redfish Tournaments.  Needless to say, the dogs gained some weight as they took the summer off of hunting while I fished.

Last Saturday night seemed like a good night to start knocking the rust off.  I got the heads up that one of my hunting spots had some hogs so I started trying to round up some help to go with me.  All my hunting buddies were busy so I had to make the run with just my dogs.  As soon as we kicked out, we started a strong bay.  The growth around this flooded field was about waist high and mostly goat weed.  I couldn’t see the bay but I eased about 30 yards away and cut my Buddy dog loose.  I heard the hit and the fight but the hog broke and circled back to the flooded field.  I was looking for my bulldog (Buddy) and then I saw him slowly moving toward the bay.  I knew something was wrong because he was moving so slow.  He got to the boar again and tried him but the hog broke and ran another 40 yards and bayed back up.  This time I ran in to catch Buddy and saw that he had been gutted and he was in serious bad shape.  I clipped him to a fence and my partner retrieved a pistol.  I put a shot in the boar’s neck and he went down.  I got everything thrown in the truck and headed to a 24hr vet.  Unfortunately, Buddy didn’t make it.

I bred and raised Buddy and he anchored countless hogs for me.  Anyone who ever hunted with me knew how special Buddy was to me.  Besides always having a solid drive and performance, one of his most notable characteristics was his relaxed demeanor.  Buddy was so selfish less.  I was his entire world so I feel his love and loss the most.  Rest In Peace my beloved hunting partner Buddy.

Its horrific how fast life can change, sorry for the loss of your buddy. How big is that hog? I believe you're about 8'3" so that's a bad sum buck! Glad you were able to kill his muddy butt and find closure.
