Raising a litter of pups is a pain in the a$$... as much as I enjoy it, it is EXPENSIVE... and an eternal headache, with inevitable heartache to boot...
Being a tad obsessive compulsive as I am....
The vision of a breeding keeps popping into my head over and over and over.... well, you get the point...
...Shine's full sister Chub has been hunting for a friend of mine for a while now, as I gave her to him to make time for my young dogs out of Shiner... Well, the bitch has turned into a hell of a dog... MUCH rougher than Shiner, but man she sure produces hogs... She's a baydog mind you(if he a good one), but she will flat shut one down by herself... not to mention the hustle... my God, the dog has hustle now....
.. Chub was the black sheep when I first started Shiner and her at the same time... Shiner had more bay to her than Chub... Chub had more catch than Shine, so I hunted Shine more for lack of stress
... Chub got put on the back burner for a long time, because I was always nervous about running her with any of my other dogs because it usually ended up with a caught hog and banged up dogs...
.... Wanting to put my time into Shine, I gave her to my hunting partner Lee... and he hunted her for a while but for his own reason's got out of dogs and I got her back... probably around 2 by now, I started pairing her with my Snapper dog(3/4 sister) and Chub started to catch gear... those two piled up alot of hogs over the next year or two...
... Just last yr, Chub started doing it on her own consistently and has not looked back... "late starter"? I don't know as much as she really never got the chance to shine... What I do know now is I appreciate the type of rough she is now... "right on that razor edge"....
Goin' on a road trip this wknd and need to make a good showing... makes a person look at what dogs he wants to take
.... Shine is still a bit banged up from last wknd, hopin' she can make it but it will be decided right before the game I'm afraid
.... SO... I'm goin' to pick the Chub up tomorrow after work for one more go....
.... Back to the breeding....
... Just got word from the 3rd of the 3 remaining males out of my Shiner litter, that he is doing REAL good... and coming from this person, that means a LOT...
... My Whaler is more like Chub than Shiner... Sawfish is more like Shiner than Chub... the male down south... time will tell, as it's still hard to get much detail from that person
... What is fact is, all 3 are making sho e nuff hog dogs...
.... and here is where I finally get to my point
....
Thinking of breeding one of these males to my Chub dog to try and "intensify" the gene pool so to speak... time will tell which of the three, but it is on my mind constantly
