Last night I got on a big sow with about that that had some teeth and gave two of my dogs a few major flesh wounds. Division cleaned them up and went to bed. This evening I get to my kennel to feed and notice that my old cat gyps tail was just barely hanging on by a thread about half way up so I went ahead and cut it of and cleaned it up...I havent ever seen this before. Is there anything else I should do?
I don't even know how it would have happened

had one of my beagles dang near cut his off going through a barb wire fence . i just finished the job out in the field and we continude to hunt never had a problem . but its gonna be sore for a while if theres enough skin still on it pull it down and staple it up . you don't want to wrap it up but you can put some tubing on it to keep the dog from pulling out the staples .

Had a bobcat take a dogs tail off once. Did not do anything and it was fine. Look to see if skin covers the bone or not. If you don't see bone it should heal fine. If you see bone then I would pull the skin over the bone and sew it if there is enough.

Usually with a tail injury the dog can lick it. If he/she can lick it, it will stay clean and will heal fine.

my sister had one of her dogs hit here recently. the car cut the tail off and skinned it pretty good. the dog licks it all the time, he keeps it looken like a fat red hotlink. there is no puss or oozing of any kind. and it does`nt show any signs of infection. its been about a month.
