was just wondering who all had cds that catch on the jaw... i've got a bulldog who seems to love that jaw... i thought after a few big pigs he might learn to go for the ear but no such luck... he's handled every pig he's been on but i've just always been an ear guy and ain't quite sure what to think yet... though his style is growing on me...any input on how you feel about catchign on the jaw would be appreciated

I have a AB that catches snout. He allways graps the whole snout some times snout and front leg lol. Done great for me once he has it it's over he has full control. He's caught few big ones  and can make them do what ever he wants. But was the same as you bout ears. But it is wearing on me.

I prefer they catch on the ear but as long as he grabs on the snout and stays caught I wouldnt care.I had a CD that would only catch the front legs which I didnt like but he never let one go so he stayed with me until he died last month of natural causes.

Had a bulldog that always 100% caught on the snout.  He sure had the pig full attention when he got caught.  That was also the reason he died young.

i train my catch dog for the ear and jaw but not the snout . I dont like a cd that will only catch the ear becuase i have seen ear dogs lost when they get there and the other dogs have both ears cought .

long live lefty the jaw dog! Lol. After that last tusker i think he could catch a grizzly. Talked ta a couple fellers n they claim the jaw is better cause ears rip out. If u want let me kno n i.ll make some calls ta look for an eardog. I would trade u for a ridgeback but she left for cattle work. Jk.lol.

I got an AB that since day one has always caught on the jaw. he has never ever caught any where else. Now with that said, he caught hogs for us for 3 years and never not one time got cut . IMO, it is just hard for a hog to cut a dog on his jaw, the dog has way more control over the hog. Now I said he caught for 3 years, he is now retired due to the fact, IMO, because he caught on the jaw. you see if a dog catches on the ear, and he is hard caught like most good catch dogs and a big hog, lets say runs him into a tree face first trying to drag him off, most of the time the worst case is the ear will rip out and the  dog has to recatch.  Well Diesl (CD) caught a 275lb black barr hog on the jaw. to make matters worse we turned him loose at about 20 yards looking at the hog but just as he got there the hog tried to break but as the hog broke Diesl caught the hog on the jaw in a run and the barr ran him into a pine face first and it pulled both of his upper canine teeth out, well they were both pointing straight ahead . The vet put them back in , but it is hard to trust them any more so now he is a family pet and stud dog, who gets to eat good and chase critters around the yard. so like always there is pros and cons with every catch dog and how he catches. but IMO,  if useing one catch dog the dog has more control over the hog on the jaw, but like we all know in certain situations every dog gets a curve ball thrown at them and we just thank God for the three years we got to enjoy watching him work.

My pit catches on the snout and I really dont like it.  Teo weeks ago he caught a big sow and litterally broke her snout.  By the time I got him off the hog, her nose was hanging down about her chin.  We had to kill the sow and I wish we could have spared her.

Had a couple, nothing wrong with it, holds better honestly but you may end up sticking more then you hobble. I stick all of mine unless I need one to train with but that's just me. I know a lot of people on here like to hobble em. At least they're getting money for the hog. My dogs are all way to rough to keep one in good condition for long

I'm new to hog dogging but we've stuck them all. I've got a freeze full of wild hog. But I guess if we caught one worth selling we would.

Have any of you guys had a set of pits that caught on the same front leg every time??  I had 2 seemed like the white one was always on the left leg and the other pit was on the right for almost every hog we caught for a while, rattle snake killed the left leg dog down at the ranch going to a bayed hog, he crawled thru the brush tunnel and i heard him yelp a bit, he made it to the hog bay and caught, we stuck the hog and the noise died down, somebody coming from the truck said omg there is a rattler 30 feet from u in th emiddle of the tunnel, dog died as we were 60 miles from a vet, after a while i could see the  bloodied fang marks on his white side, his name was ol spot, sure missed him for 30 years every time we drive to the ranch oak mott where he got it......  I was always worried when we got a nose catcher, like u guys says, they get that tusk right in the jugualr vein from hog slinging up and down if you got no catch dog help, seemed like ear latchers were about the same, i think the pits we had that lived th elongest were leg catchers but who know, it might just be luck of the tusk running out...

Id like to see some pics of those dogs on a hog... Ive only seen that happen once with 2 pits, and it wasnt very pretty...
The hog didnt have alot of size to it, but they still didnt seem to control it very well along with leaving the hogs head free to thrash...

Did you ever have those dogs catch a hog that was backed into a hole/brush??  I would be curious to know how they would go about catching it...
