Well I finally have my pups on the ground - 7 weeks old.

I just have a question for the veterans - I am planning to keep all 9 of them until I see if they turn on.  Do most of you do this when you have a decent litter or do you pick and choose.  I plan on trying all of them, I am not going to sell any of them - maybe cull where needed.

A little background on the litter -

My original dog Goose (kemmer) was out of one of Davis Hise's best dogs named Shorty (Kemmer - Gold nugget/ yellow jacket)
Goose was killed about 2 years ago in Oklahoma he was a great dog maybe a little to much yellow jacket he was very rough - but I managed to get one of his pups named Turbo (kemmer-plott-greyhound)

On the other side I had a great dog named Buck (kemmer - more gold nugget) he was bred to one of MPorter's best females - in which I got a female pup from named Josey (Kemmer/plott) she is a very gamey dog
hates a hog.

To make a long story short - I now have pups from the Turbo - Josey cross.  I have high hopes for these pups because on both sides back to the grandparents were great hog dogs.  I know this is a science but I am trying to understand it as much as possible.
To all you veterans - am I heading down the right road in my pup program?

By the way the pups look awesome - 5 yellow kemmer marked pups and 4 brindle pups - already had them on a hog hide and they are all very interested in it.
I will post some pictures of them soon.

Thanks

Dont see any way you could go wrong as long as you cull what doesnt make the cut.

first thing is socialize them...if you can't keep them all keep the best 4 or 5 pups and test/train them. At 5 or 6 months cull one more and then cull again at a later date unless you plan to keep 3 or 4 for hunting. by time they are a year old I usually am down to 3 pups if I need to keep 2. but I am always aware of each pups progression and when they start hunting and how old the pup was when he made the complete races etc. etc.

well, sounds to me like you have some good dogs to start with...David keeps good dogs and he is a fan of the mtn cur...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
