thinking about messing with some gsp on hogs any out there that can tell me to expect i want more drive in rough terrain is it worth the effort starting this, opions please

They definitely have a lot of drive and a good wind nose. A buddy used to have one and he was a good dog, just not our style.

i raise them for feild trialing and bird hunting. but i have a couple i have trained on hoggs they a realy rough and can go all day im fixing to have a litter of half gsp and catahoula expecting a hard core hunting dog

Bullet, my partner and I both went to english pointer pit mixes. We needed more range and all day drive. We don't have many hogs here so we wanted a dog that can travel. My dog will go all day and night, tons of energy, he shakes with energy always! He winds really well and is also very easy handling dog. Our dogs are always huntin from tailgate to tailgate. Only problem mine has is if he knows were gettin back to the truck he'll get stubborn and try to ditch me so he don't have to stop. I've had a couple gsp's that were for birds and they were the same, lots of hunt, lots of energy. I currently have a litter of half redbone half english poinyter if ya want one their free.

Over 8 months I learned that mine has a high heat tolorance, speed, and drive to hunt. Just got to get him on more pigs. Try it, you wont be disappointed.

A friend of ours had one. Sent that dog to bird dog school. Spent thousands. Then he decided to get into hog doggin. We trained the dog for hogs. He was very very long range. After while guy got bored n went back to bird hunting. Took the dog out. That dog came to the most beautiful point he had ever seen. He was amazed. After 10 seconds or so that dog opened up and bayed the crap outta that bird. LOL. True story.

Oh, I am a plott man, but everybody don't like open mouthed dogs, so I keep a few silent dogs. I might make another trip up there, but will be bringing plotts next time.  |

A lot of folks here in Georgia run pointer/pits. Probably 1/2 the hog hunters I know have or have had a pit/pointer with nothing bad to say about them. One day you Texas boys will figure it out |

Noah, I thought I saw a pic you posted of one of your dogs that had a lot of German Shorthaired Pointer in it. I really like the looks of that dog. I cannot find that thread again.

it was Chub dog(3/4 FL cur x 1/4 EP) an English Pointer. that is definitely and awesome looking dog.

HAHA, thanks Wolf, everthing I got has some pointer in it to tell you the truth They add good stuff to my type of hog dog... I gave Chub to the grandson of one of my ranchers, and the little b@stard has been sending me one hog picture after another ever since lol... that'll teach me to give a dog away... he doesn't have to call me anymore to catch hogs  Only dog he has... and she's been piling the pork up for him lately! And i like it cuz they aint tempermental. U aint gotta worry about breaking a bird dogs spirit, and they aint shy usually, but they dont like to stop hunting. U gotta catch em when its time to quit. Thats just from the few i've been around hog hunting
