I know some of u guys have done it or do it but we couldn't close the deal Saturday night. Had a good Barr Bayed and our only catch dog was at the house on the injured reserve list. Figured we'd be allright cause we took a couple rough currxhounds but we found a Barr of the big spotted variety. Any way we got to within 10' or less with a rope but it was to thick for us non cowboy types to make that happen and we wound up catching him with a 45 slug after he started cutting dogs. So any advice or tricks on catching em with out a catch dog. Btw this was at night.

|
try to be sneaky, quick, and accurate when you grab for the legs. If you miss you may end up in a tree  .. If your dogs catch with a catch dog they may do it when you grab a leg, which helps ALOT! |

Yea we were trying to be sneaky but this stuff was so thick, like cud-zoo in Florida. I had to crawl to the bay. Idk it could be I'm just a sissy.
If it's thick, you used the right method.  If it's wide open, you can play super-hero on the right hog. The ones I've bare handed were all under 200 pounds. The hogs that are around 150, can turn on a dime, and have you puckering all in the same moment. LOL |

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

The currs were getting worked over and the hog was well over 200.

Sounds like you had no choice, I had split bay with a big boar backed up to a stump. I couldn't get to his legs, I was about to stick it and hope it didn't climb the stump but luckily my buddy came in and the hog broke when they saw the light which is all it took, they started catching well enough so I could get a leg him. so I guess try and make the hog turn if your dogs are type that get rough when they move....you need to come see huck hunt next time im at the hollands, he is turning into quote the dog

That hog had a pit bull hanging off his face! LOL He was caught but still able to do whatever he wanted. I was just trying to get him out the pond so we could stick him. |
