I agree with you there for sure Mike, but it wasn't on purpose it was an accident. I guess I am a softy then. If it were early in the preg stage then I'd say like someone else did, and get the shot... but since the dog has to have them, I'd at least give em a chance. OR see if anyone else wants to try one. I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I am no pro, and I'm always asking different people for their thoughts on things. This is just one of those things that I have not been able to overcome. Culling would deff be my weak point, but is also why I am very cautious on what dogs I bring to the yard. So far I guess I have gotten lucky! JMO

The original poster did not ask about raising the pups for 6-8 weeks then giving them away to pet homes.

<"Question is do I raise em and see what happens or cull IMMEDIATLY?" > She asked about  raising them and seeing what happens.  obvious answer is NO.

I had an accidental breeding between two honest hog dogs. The pups were here and gone in the same day. The female dried up and was back to her old self in a matter of a couple weeks.

It's hard enough to breed good dogs, that are bred for the task. Why fool with them when the odds are against the pairing?

I'm sure someone is going to come on here and talk about the cur x aussie, or cur x heeler that made a dog. It may have, and it would be the exception not the rule.

Trust me; I know you two know your chit... so my rebuttal would have to be that I would have to out-source the culling to someone more qualified. LOL! I just can’t do it…

I have to say that I agree with the concensus that we have enough pups in the world.

Ryan, that's what Uncles are for.

Oh, and for the record, in my defense, I WAS NOT the one who got this gyp bred, she wasn't even at my house. I took her back not knowing she was bred till I got there.

Cull. Costs to much to raise accidents. Plenty of free dogs at the pound for pets. If you need an uncle to help cull I'm sure someone on the board would help you tiny.

LOL! There lies the problem though. If I want to have a long lasting successful breed of dogs that I like and off of my yard, then I am going to have to figure out how to get over the "I don't think I can do" its... you know? Good luck on those dogs... I say if they turn out looking good, and they might work, then work em. If not, do what you need to do. I guess this shows my inexperiance, or shows my soft heart.

And to stick up for myself a little but, I agree that there are too many puppies in shelters and in parking lots waisting away. So I guess I'm torn... Can you tell? LOL! Sorry for babling.

I agree with everyone who said cull. The sooner the better.

I had nine puppies from an accident. A few people will give a pup a run but most will be going to the pound so I know they will be fixed before running the streets. Some incut dog was let to run around and got in my yard. There is no way I am raising a litter. If the male was mine I may see if the cross worked and if it did I could do it again. But not knowing what male is a waste of time and food. If it is too late then get em off mom as soon as possible and take a box to the pound.

If you do decide to let her have the litter send me some pics. I will try and find a couple homes if I can, and if they're not "culled". I know, I know... I'm a softy.  Wink

if i'm not mistaken , will taking puppies to the pound not cost the tax payers money ? if not the taxpayers , then who ?

the world ain't big enough for all the accidents , even if they are cute .

you gotta draw the line somewhere ... might as well put it where it goes  .

Well, she had them... 9, she did the first culling for me, down to 3. Thinkin since they are obviously the strongest, maybe I'll give them a shot. They are all three brindle like her, one has a white face. Only problem is she isn't Producing any milk, so looks like I will be bottle feeding them. Joy joy

Some areas like city of houston it is illegal to sit on side of road, flea markets, or in parking lots to give away puppies its fixing to be illegal to cull your own dogs and it may cost you to take your unwanted dogs to shelters to "GIVE AWAY"m

so might start take this into consideration befor you let any more "maybes' allowed to go on living and keep only the best around because that next generation of oopps may be the ones that really cost you to get rid of, because we are soft hearted with good intentions this time around.

WHY CANT WE JUST CULL THE BUNNY HUGGERS INSTEAD?

Crystal, couldn't agree with you more. I wish my family saw things the same way. I am the only hunter, so when Mom asked me what I was gonna do with these pups, S&$@&;$;&:@;$,!;&: really hit the fan when I told her. I said, "okay, have fun" and dropped all 3 live pups off at her house in a dr pepper case box with 3 bottles of milk.

I might be called a b:$;@ by a whole lot of people but I just can't cull, although I wish I could have more than a few times.
