Went out Saturday with Casey Potter (POTTER) south and west of Lubbock.  Casey and I had had a few dry runs together due to some boars breaking out across empty cotton fields and outrunning our cur dogs.  Seeing as how I don't have a catch dog, Paul Teegardin was kind enough to let me borrow one of his stag hounds, Glen.

Glen on the rig.

Pulled up to little salt lake surrounded by salt cedars and cat tails.  Baldy (my catahoula) and Thor (Casey's BMC) got on a track and bayed up a pig 121 yards away.  All the bay dogs and Glen went toward the bay and we let Rhino (Casey's pitbull) go as well.    The bay broke and they got on the pig again at 86 yards.  It was in this awful thick cattail and we moved about 10 feet a minute - both catch dogs on and all the bay dogs caught.  Finally got to the bay, legged it and stuck it.  One dog got a good poke but nothing to major.

4 hours after that boar I called a land owner up and he said a sow and some shoats had gone into a little tank (5 acres) with some water and cattails.  Casey and a buddy went one way around the tank and I took Glen and my Wrancher dog to the right.  Wrancher is a mutt that I rescued and he is full of surprises.  Wrancher shot into the cattails and started baying up the sow.  Glen got there and started helping out.  The other bay dogs showed up and I ran in there and legged her and stuck her.  We cleaned her up later that evening and she was had a 1 1/2" fat layer around her body.  I don't know what they are eating but they are eating a lot of it.

Thanks again Paul for letting me borrow Glen, he really came in handy.

Great hunt Will. Glad Glen was able to help you out this week.

For those that don't know, Will's dog Baldy came from me. He is (Connie x Punchy) and a belly mate to my great dog Chili. He is in good hands with Will and is on his way to making a top hog dog after getting pulled out of the cow dog string.

Good hogs! It sure is cool to see so many different breeds of dogs being used to do work... I like that stag Glen. And Baldy is a really good looking cat! I like that color a lot. Cool pics! Thanks for sharing.
